I know it might shock you to learn that not every gamer is a wonderful person. And Fallout, Im sorry to say, had more than its average share of less-than-pleasant fans. To this small but very vocal community, our attempt to resurrect the franchise was nothing less than a sacrilege. For the first time ever, Bethesda had to hire a security guard.

the fallout franchise didn't start with 3(D) and that probably had a lot to do with it.

on another note i would love another isometric FO and there has been no better time than now to go back with the production values of BG3.

I clearly remember the Fallout 3 ad campaign that plastered the DC Metro system with scenes of destroyed DC landmarks. That was (locally) controversial at the time.

Yeah, it was a shitshow from No Mutants Allowed. Most people were hyped, but that was the first time I took notice of a completely toxic forum. Like they were posting Bethesda's address and threatening to burn it down or bomb them when Fallout 3 was announced.

And apparently there was dissension when Fallout 2 came out as well. For many of them on NMA, Fallout 1 is the only one that mattered.

And gamers have been insufferable ever since.

Its crazy to me how often gamers send death threats. Its basically normalized to the point where whenever it's mentioned that a dev got a death threat people just shrug like c'est la vie.

There were people complaining and threatening Nintendo on the forums leading up to OoT's release because they found out you couldn't jump manually (also for adult Link's earrings, which is a whole other can of worms).

And before the internet, people just sent thousands of hate mail.

I'll be honest, I was insanely skeptical about Fallout 3. Obviously not like these incels threatening to murder people over it, but I just assumed it'd be trash and never capture the freedom that Fallout 2 essentially gave players.

I ended up absolutely loving Fallout 3, among my favorite games of that gen if not all time. They nailed a lot of what made Fallout, Fallout. You weren't as free as Fallout 2, but it was definitely fun as shit.

Every large fandom will always have those psychopathic idiots.

That's why I feel safe being a Pauly Shore fan.

Fallout 1, 2, and to a lesser extend tactics had a small but rabid fanbase. I remember it was a complete storm of rage that both Bethesda would be making it and that it'd be 3D. "Oblivion with guns" was such a chapter, ooph.

Which is weird as the worst fallout wan't made by Bethesda. Fallout Brotherhood of Steel.

I believe he's saying it is/was odd that Bethesda got so much hate for adopting the IP when other studios have made way worse Fallout games, which is objectively true.

I checked their forums to see if they've mellowed out a bit and one of the first things I saw was a transphobic asshole whining about the tv show being woke communist propaganda -_-
