God damn.......what in the fuck was that.

*Possible spoiler hints for this series and a certain 2005 PS2 of the star and ocean variety ahead.*

So the anime starts inside this MMO game where the MC is this early 2000s edge-based character, this strong as hell old dude, a girl, and another dude being in a party and acting like a family. Its pretty light so far, just talking about general MMO terms like leveling, finding loot, keeping control of a certain area for resource management yadda yadda. Then there is the "hook" about 10 minutes in the episode...

The MC logs out and he is literally me. Man is a ascended hikikomori.
Room looks and smells like ass on a hot summer southern state day:

He himself looks and smells like ass:

And he hasn't eaten a damn thing besides junk to the point he is suffering from malnutrition and can barely walk.

He finally leaves his dungeon after lord knows how long, raids the fridge for literally anything he can find right. His dad looks absolutely fucking dreadful sitting at the table. 100 percent hot depression. They get into a little scuffle about changing the light bulb in that area they call a kitchen because it just blew. Dad is yelling his back hurt change this goddamn bulb please, MC just keep saying man the real world is shit, every person is shit, eating is shit, sunlight is shit, my dad is shit and everything is just shit.

As the MC skulks back to his lair, he runs into his little bro coming out of his room. Now see the little bro is a bit of a achiever in school, can play some sports I think, can cook, thinks people who are addicted to video games is waste of air (supposedly) and is just tall as hell now that he looking down at his bro. The look of sheer disdain and disappointment he gives his gaming addicted brother just.......hilarious and cuts deep enough that its going to hit some in real life:

Doesn't even say a damn word. MC looks at him, just shivers back, and hurriedly dips in his room.

This family is one of the most dysfunctional I have ever seen in manga and anime. Like the uchiha ain't got nothing on these people all 4 of them is absolutely broken. It takes the entire series/all 12 episodes to work out their shit.

The main plot deals with looking for this thing called the black bird, which is a supposedly rare enemy spawn in the MMO the MC plays. If you find it, the game company will give you like, mad yen IRL so its pretty motivating for a lot of players. MC and his game family group decide they will try to do it first.

Each end of the episode tends to have a both horrifying and funny "wham" moment. Episode 1's is......dun dun dun
The 4 people acting like a in-game family is in fact and very conveniently (it was indeed convenient, as revealed in the last episode I think. None of it was planned) the same 4 broken people IRL. Pretty wacky.

It gets crazier from there and eventually escalates to some star ocean (but not really....its weird in good night world) if you know you know kinda' shenanigans and dips into a little bit of that horror.

I.....think I recommend? I don't know it was crazy and I just wanted to talk about it.

It was...I don't know. The ending/last episodes were just too...kooky for me. I get that the whole show is how to deal with a dysfunctional family and stuff but just how much it swerved from the original concept...it just kinda lost me. Not something I would recommend to others myself tbh

Lmao I'm surprised someone else found my topic just.....flabbergasted after watching this.

My mind is still occasionally wandering back to this wondering what exactly I just experienced.

Like, was this entire anime/manga just AI people the entire time? I'm guessing it was since thats how their world got cleared up in the end by the MC cleaning up some programming (and the dragon he saw at the end was a bug that needs to be fixed later). They know their real bodies is long gone, so I'm guessing the dad and his assistant are still alive in the real world?

Shit was nutty man.
