The Japanese N64 had been out for 5 months when DKC3 was launched.

DKC 3 came out a few months after the N64, and everyone knew about it at the time.

yeah, my point is all the cool people were busy playing Mario 64. And all the people who didnt have one yet were stuck playing SNES

I dont think much of Mario 64 now, but when I first played it at a Wal-Mart kiosk it felt magical. The novelty was real.

I can picture the Wrinkly scene reminding children of their own magical time at an N64 kiosk, and perhaps evoking a yearning, but I think they wouldve largely been perfectly happy just playing their new Donkey Kong game, at least at first.

Yeah, I have the same memory of a Toys R Us kiosk, and seeing Mario jump out of the warp pipe in the opening scene, and then getting to run around as Mario. My mind was blown.
