full disclosure, I don't think I need a therapist, but I wanna go to one for the experience of it and to see if it's like in TV shows....which makes me think, "I might actually need a therapist lol"

so, yeah, what is it like? what happens at it? are you allowed to just get one therapy session, or do you have to like sign a subscription for 3 months of therapy or something?
how do you tell if a therapist is legit and can be a good help to you, or is full of baloney? how do you even know what exactly the help you need is, does the therapist tell you what help you need? if so, how do you know they're right?

does there exist therapy that is instead with a philosophy basis? or a spiritual type of therapist? or in the case of philosophy should i just take a philosophy class? but then, couldn't I just sign up for psychology school and then become my own therapist? or what if giving therapy is the therapists form of self therapy? so then I'd end up becoming a therapist. I think I'd make a terrible therapist

They go over what's troubling you. They help deep dive and investigate, and help.you pin point and identify emotions and cope and deal with them, and ultimately make you the best YOU you can be.

There are different kinds of therapy.

If you're talking about individual therapy, a big part of it is having someone you talk to while having assurance that what you say will remain confidential. It doesn't have to be a major mental health issue. It can be things like you want help dealing with stress or family relationships or whatever you want to get out of it. A good therapist is going to listen to you and find out what your goals are and try to help you with them.

They may offer suggestions for strategies that might help with whatever you're going through but they're not going to try to tell you that you have to do things a certain way. It's also pretty common for people to try a few different therapists before they find someone they click with. If you don't feel like a therapist you're seeing is really helping you it's totally fine to decide to see a different therapist.

There's also things like couples therapy and group therapy, but it sounds like you're not talking about those. There's not a one size fits all, it depends on you and what you want to get out of it.
