Yeah, if it wasn't clear I was saying all three of those attitudes are bad.

They'll be going "Well at least I held onto my principles" while being pushed up against the wall before being executed or when others will suffer that fate.

If you dont like the status quo, your best bet currently is to vote democrat in an attempt to get the Republican Party to collapse and a new party can emerge to take its place.

Honestly, I find the actual existential dread is stuff relating to climate change and, well, the other dozen or so major issues. A big theme in lovecraft is that the normal person's thought is "it surely isn't actually THAT bad, right?"

But it IS that bad, if not far worse. The worst case scenario, which is far more likely than even the scientists want to say, is a Canfield ocean. If that happens, the majority of macroscopic life will die, as oxygen levels plumet to between 50 and 70% of current, and the ocean takes to emitting toxic gas instead of oxygen.

It happened once before. We call that mass extinction the "Great Dying." The planet did recover by our standards, and life got back to its business. But not before 95% of all variation known to exist before that time died for good. Fungi didn't have much of a problem though.

It's just getting harder and harder for me to vote for Biden. I'm still going to but fuck is it hard to argue for him beyond Trump will ruin everything

There are more people on the ballot than the President, your local elections are important. Imagine using being depressed in April as an excuse to not do something in November.

A positive vision that inspires hope works pretty well actually. Democrats just refuse to present one and seem to prefer "the other guy is terrible" as their only strategy.

Fear doesn't have the effect of making people think in the exact way you'd hope or expect. It often simply paralyzes and embitters. That's why you need hope.

I've tried to explain it to you countless times: people do not vote or participate in politics based on the mindset you present in these topics. Even someone like Humble Novice who is constantly pushing the "save democracy" button thinks Biden is actually good, not just that we're choosing between slow ruin and fast ruin. People check out if they think that's the case.

I think the best-case scenario would be for Biden to get reelected and step down shortly afterward. Kamala Harris has condemned what's going on and might, at a bare minimum, remove US support for genocide.
