Fact that gag orders aren't being taken seriously is part of why I only check up on these trials once a week. It's a complete farce and I don't see him getting actual jail time ever.

Hope Hicks testified today that she was worried trump would lose women voters after the Access Hollywood tape. Interesting that she thought Republicans had some sort of standard still at that point in time. We know now that they don't.

I will be legit shocked if this doesn't end in a conviction, the evidence is overwhelming the real problem is what the punishment is going to be, nobody has really hit the fuck out of Trump pso far in punishments it's all been fines and wrist slaps, even the fraud case didn't really hurt him as much it would have hurt anybody non rich who did all that shit he did, the justice system is designed to protect wealthy white men and no judge seems to be willing to rock that boat and then there's the supreme court, at least 4 of those fuckers have made it clear they're in Trump's corner and 1 of them could go either way, the 3 liberals up there might as well be traffic cones for how little they matter most of the time.

They are definitely scared to show the president as someone who could have broke the law. Even with the mountains of evidence. I say we join the countries like South Korea who aren't afraid to put top officials in jail.

For screenshots, I'm just using the native screenshot shortcut on my computer. With Twitter embedding, longer tweets have a "show more..." link that just ends up opening a Twitter tab any way, so I figured I'll just screenshot those instead.

On Windows it's something like Windows Key + Shift + S
On Mac it's Command + Shift + 4. That will save it as an image you can opt to edit or just save. Or you can hold CTRL to only save it to clipboard. I think Windows has something like this as well, but I can't remember the particulars at the moment.

I think that is what the judge is absolutely trying to do. Trump deserves to be in jail for many reasons, including contempt that would have landed any other defendant in jail.

But: Trump is not any other defendant. Jailing a former President/current nominee has all sorts of ramifications, including playing right into MAGAs dumb political persecution arguments. As a result, the Court is hoping not to do it, and is trying to lay a foundation to justify an eventual jailing if it is necessary.

Unfortunately, Trumps base is not comprised of rational thinkers. It doesnt matter how justified a jailing for contempt actually is. They will scream persecution and follow their dumb cult leader all the same.

They're not the ones we have to worry about. They're going to scream persecution regardless of the actual penalty (be it jail time or otherwise) for his repeated violations of the court's gag order.

It's the uninformed fence sitters we need to worry about. If the media doesn't make it crystal clear that Trump being jailed is both warranted and a result of his own actions then said fence sitters might buy into the persecution narrative.

I don't know that I trust the media to reach the fence sitters.

I hear you and share the concern-but I also honestly dont believe there are many fence sitters left. Trump and MAGA have been so in your face egregious for so long that I think most centrists or independents at this point are just GOP voters too scared to admit it. Even generally uninformed people know what Trump is about at this stage, and either accept his ridiculous evil or dont.

There certainly are genuine fence sitters, and we sure will hear a lot about them between now and November. But I dont think this election will come down to the few there are. I think it will come down to who mobilizes their bases more-because the camps are pretty firmly set. Which is why further agitating his already rabid base is still a concern.

There are more Democrats and sane people in this country, but we are not as unified as a cult. So it will, I think, come down to which side votes the hardest, not winning the few actually in the middle at this point.

Yeah, this doesn't look good for the defense. They said in their opening statement that they would prove that the $130,000 payment to Michael Cohen wasn't a reimbursement. Witness testimony and documentation today has shown that it was.

So the prosecutors say they expect to be done presenting their case on May 21st, then the defense will begin to present their side. Not sure how long the defense expects their stuff to go for. If I had to guess, due to a couple scheduled days off, the case should be handed to the jury in the first week of June.

I really interested on what kind of defense they could put on when Trump has already practically admitted to all of this, and every single person who testifies corroborates it. Just a bunch of "nuh uh"s for a week and a half?

Yeah, I mean... I'm basing my guess on the idea that Trump's defense team actually takes the case seriously and calls up the same number of witnesses that the prosecution did, but... who knows what they're gonna do

So it sounds like the prosecutions case is going very well, yes? Someone said it was like connecting the dots in the whole situation.

Trump's team will not likely try to deny everything, they'll just try to make the case that this misdemeanor should not have been elevated to a felony charge. If they can get the jury to agree, then it will be a fine, not jail time.

As for the contempt/gag order stuff, none of it really matters until Cohen takes the stand. At that point, Trump will not be able to contain himself, and Merchan will have to make a real decision about how to police him

Even though the charges are the weakest of all the cases he is still dead to rights on this case.

His only chance is the one guy on the jury who uses truth social.
