Here we go. https://ktla.com/news/california/allstate-hikes-prices-30-in-california/ Company officials announced that California drivers would have to pay 30% more for vehicle insurance coverage, on average. The rate hike was approved in December, officials said during an earnings call. https://www.npr.org/2024/03/07/1236504265/ auto-insurance-costs-more-everywhere-but-the-problem -is-especially-bad-in-califo Some California drivers say they're waiting longer than usual to get coverage and must pay premiums up front. https://calmatters.org/economy/2023/12/california-car-insurance/ The insurance department also is in the middle of setting new regulations for fire insurance as some of the biggest insurers have pulled out of California, citing increased wildfire risks. That has led to skyrocketing premiums that some homeowners have said they cant afford. Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an executive order in September directing the insurance commissioner, Ricardo Lara, to try to solve the problem. ... Copied to Clipboard!

streamofthesky posted... https://www.marketwatch.com/guides/insurance-services/insuring-your-kia-or-hyundai/ California's jails are dangerously overcrowded as it is. You have incidents where the jail cells are so full that there isn't enough room for anyone to lay down on the floor, and people not receiving punishment have to be put in The Hole (the sensory deprivation solitary room.) NIMBY prevents new ones from being built (companies probably don't like the building code and green regulations, either) People don't want jails in their communities because it worsens traffic congestion, increases both the criminal and police presence in the neighborhood, and flushes property values down the toilet. ... I got Kia Boy'd 2 years ago and had to trade in my car simply because my insurance tripled in price through zero fault of my own. Kia offered a free security update and steering wheel club but every insurance will see once you get kia boys you pay up rather than actually punishing thieves.
That will carry with me forever as long as a search for car insurance. Someone with zero tickets, zero accidents, zero scratches/fender benders, and excellent car maintenance. A ruined because of Tik Tok. --- SNARGLEBLAGH ... Copied to Clipboard!

Just announced, NHTSA requiring Automatic Emergency Braking on all cars in the next 5 years. Going to be yet another stupid technology added to increase cost per car, and I don't like the possible negative unintended consequences, at all. So you're in an AEB car and get a "false positive" (my first concern when I saw the news, and apparently it's not uncommon...see below) while driving at 60 fucking miles per hour. The car behind you is older and doesn't have AEB, and has no logical reason to think you're going to suddenly SLAM ON THE BRAKES on a perfectly clear road, so he's unable to stop in time and collides with you. I wonder how much more this will make cars and insurance cost? https://apnews.com/article/automatic-emergency-braking-requirement-stop-standards-366abf6958eaf4e48e7ca4737075071b https://abc3340.com/news/local/drivers-complain-of-phantom-braking-on-some-newer-model-vehicles-nissan-honda-emergency-braking-aeb-automatic-braking https://www.automotive-fleet.com/10196711/safety-systems-may-cause-phantom-braking https://new.reddit.com/r/SelfDrivingCars/comments/109oa9j/aeb_automated_emergency_braking_systems_dont_work/ ... Technology that reduces crashes and makes cars safer isn't increasing insurance rates. It's the greedy insurance companies increasing insurance rates. What we really need is a government option to reduce rates. Of course the best solution would be to reduce reliance on cars, but if we can't do that then we have to recognize how essential they are to living in the US and have the government provide insurance itself, especially since having insurance is mandated to drive a car.

At least in California $400 is a hugeeeeeeee amount to raise on a premium in a year. I would definitely contact them and then shop around. Rates have been getting ridiculous once mandates were lifted and more people were on the road. i was paying $130 a month for 2 cars, full coverage during Covid now its $210.
