As someone who doesn't even make $20,000 a year, most of the amounts people in here are saying would be literally life changing for me.

100k a year is expected in SoCal. Research showed that 70k a year is considered poverty level in Orange County area lol

its kinda crazy how money is treated/how far a dollar can go in different parts of the country.
like where I live? I can (as a single guy with no kids) live very comfortably on $30k a year and can even afford a mortgage with a decent amount of land. but I don't really buy much, my car is almost 20 years old, and my phone is ancient too.

but my sister? she's in a similar situation as you, $100k is barely enough to get by and she's just as frugal as me when it comes to spending. like, her car? 15 years old, her phone is newer but her plan is cheap, and she doesn't go out much. basically paying rent, buying groceries, and then other bills is causing her to almost live paycheck to paycheck, to the point that I've sent her money a few times.
