This was my second game I completed with RPG Maker MV and alot of custom plugins. I made it like a mixture of the 7th Saga on SNES mixed with GTA1 elements mixed into a odd open city RPG game. You can steal cars, use unlocked cars as treasure chests, go in abandoned buildings, recruit animals off the street to join your party etc.

They said they used RPG Maker MV. From what I remember, RPG Maker MV uses JavaScript for plugins (beyond the regular point and click interface for regular event scripting).

It was my first dive into game development (not MV, but a much earlier version) and it's a great balance between ease of use and capabilities (particularly for making RPGs). If you have any questions on how to use it, I'd be happy to answer.

! year on and off by myself. It used RPG Maker MV with a crap ton of custom plugins that I downloaded and bought. I'd say about 30% percent of the art was made my me with me having to ask or pay for the rest. I think I paid maybe 30-40 bucks for the whole game, It could've turned out better as I removed some stuff but somebody gave me 5 bucks on Itch.Io it wont tell me who.

I tried Fighter Creator on Steam in hopes of creating a Eternal Champions type game but that engine sucked. MUGEN Ill try a bit, Unreal 5 I wanted next on my next PC along with Jo Engine(Sega Saturn engine for PC)

beta footage from Jan/Feb, the butterflies and everything else was fixed later including the Mummy's botched speech on Iron Maiden. The Cop cars scold you in the final version while other street cars can run you over and kill you.

The Jukeboxes in the Bar have tracks too like SEGA music, L7, 2pac,

311 did most of the city tracks from their b-sides album
The cool thing about making free games is you can use all the music you want

RPG maker gets a bad rep but there's some surprisingly good games made on it.

RPG Maker MV I reccomend as you can get extra plugins for free that will tweak the game out and make it better

MZ is out but idk anything about the latest Maker out

MZ is good but the plugin market is cornered by VisuStella and their plugins are obfuscated so combability with other plugins is difficult. I have all their plugins and find them really useful but they cost money. There's also some good free plugins and I've commissioned a few.

At that point you might as well use an engine actually geared towards 3D game development.
