The word Hispanic is a misnomer. Most Americans classified as Hispanic, are actually indigenous.

This is one that's actually weird. Because Hispanic is of or relating to Spain. So being Hispanic can mean that you're either from Spain or someone that was conquered by the Spanish. So realistically speaking, there is a good chance that you actually know more people that are Hispanic or should be, but just don't count themselves as Hispanic.

I honestly find it baffling that more recent jobs have taken it upon themselves to not only merge Hispanic and Latin as one thing, but it's even more confusing because South America breaks it down differently than the US. Curious, is there anyone that actually knows how EU does it?

And yes, I have Hispanic friends.

Several from my hometown that I've kept in touch with. Actually locally that I see on the regular, two people who I know identify as Hispanic.

Most hispanics are of mixed ancestry, usually of indigenous and Spanish or Portuguese. I have a friend from El Salvador who has a plurality of indigenous ancestry but he looks like Jona Hill and has fair skin and green eyes. Some countries are more indigenous than others, like Guatemala, or some are more European than others, like Argentina. And than you have people of African, Asian, and so on ancestry. One of the top Smash players from Mexico comes from Italian immigrants who migrated there.

However the base of most Latin American's culture derives from the Iberian peninsula.

I'm from a predominantly Hispanic town. I actually didn't have many non-Hispanic friends growing up.

theres also alot of african influence as well as they were just as active in the slave trade especially in the carribean
