I would definitely take that over my 8-5. Starting at 5 would kinda suck but it's worth it and there are less people out at that time.

I hated my job still, and the days could feel super long, but I actually enjoyed my 3x12 third shift position while it was available. Suffer for 3 days and then have 4 days off, every week. Totally worth, imo. If I could do that w/ my current job, it'd be perfect.

Id rather live on the street than start work at 5am

also the push for 4 day work weeks means 32 hour weeks with the same pay, not 4 ten hour days

I work a 4x10 rotating schedule, every third week I get a 5 day weekend. It's pretty nice.

4/10 is literally a thing in various jobs. Especially in government. I work 4 days a week, on a 10 hour shift, and get 3 days off.

It was choice provided to me. I had the option of:
5/8s. Which is the typical 5 day 8 hour shift.

4/9s. Work 4 days at 9 hour shifts, and bi weekly I work a 5th day for 8 hours. (My last job I did this.)

Or 4/10s. Which is work 4 days for 10 hours.

Yeah, I had a four ten-hour schedule back when I was single and in my twenties, and enjoyed it a lot. Doubt that I'd still be a fan at forty with kids, though.

I prefer shorter work days. I'd do 7x5ish hour days if that was an option. Once I'm up and about, I'm more productive in other aspects too. If I don't have a real reason to force me out of bed, then I simply won't.

That's what we had and then switched to 4/10s a couple years ago. I like the 4/10s more. I work 6 am - 4:30 pm on weekdays, which is rough, but have every Monday off. Half of us have every Friday off to make sure someone is here at all times. So for me, Friday is a very chill and relaxed day since no one is here. I don't think I can go back to 2 day weekends.

We call that 5-4-9 where I'm at, and it's what im on. We also rigged the schedule so that most of our off Fridays fall during a holiday weekend, giving us a free four day vacation.

It depends on when the Fridays fall in the month, but essentially yes.

Its seems to be getting more common.

You don't necessarily get 3 Friday's off in a month, it depends on how the dates line up in a month. Like in a month with only 4 Fridays you'll work two and be off two.

Basically week 1 you work "9, 9, 9 ,9, 8" for a total of 44 hours. Then week 2 you work "9, 9, 9, 9, off" for a total of 36 hours. So it still works out to the same 80 hours every 2-week paycheck, but you're only working 9 shifts instead of 10.

I have a buddy with this schedule and he absolutely loves it.

I do mine so it's 9,9,9,9,9
Then 9,9,9, 8.
Gives me just one extra hour on that three day weekend.

Looking at my 2024 schedule, I see two months where it works out that I have 3 Fridays off.

I am, we also get holiday off with pay which helps along with 10 days of PTO which is just barely enough to keep me mentally stable.

Honestly I didnt care for that. Im much happier with the five 8s. Well, sort of. When I did the four 10s, I worked 7:30 - 6:00. I would get home from work around 6:30, and I typically wake up around 5:00. I felt like I had NO time during those four days and if I had to do anything, it was locked into the three days I had off.

But now my schedule is a bit different. I do 7 - 6 from home on Sundays, 7- 3:30 on Mondays, 7 - 2:30 Tuesday - Thursday (but Ill stay till 3:30 some days for overtime).

But even without the long Sunday and shorter days, Im still much happier leaving work at 3:30 five days a week because Ive still got the whole afternoon to do stuff in addition to my days off.
