It is less often the case in basketball than football, but there are plenty of examples of guys who were the best known, most popular players in college but not the top pro draft pick.

Demand = exposure

There's no demand for Chicago Sky WNBA games on a National level so why would they waste time and money Broadcasting it when no one would watch it? I'm guessing the person who tweeted in the OP realllyyy doesn't like white people.

There's a big group of people here and on social media that have a strong animosity towards players not named CC and it's very weird.

Clark is one of the best female NCAA basketballers ever and her game as far as passing and shooting are entertaining. Unsurprisingly, it's drawing a lot of attention. I don't believe it's a racial thing, as on the men's side, everyone is (rightfully) on team LeBron or team Jordan, and anyone with an operating brain stem could agree that Steph Curry has been entertaining to watch.

If demand for Chicago Sky-involved games gets to a fever pitch, then yeah, definitely televise both.

You want every eyeball accounted for when selling to ADVERTISERS as the league is primed to grow further.

People watch preseason, that's been established. You would know this if YOU had any interest before 2023.

"But...but Reese's Twitter...." isn't the reason that Clark's games have been the most watched women's basketball games (college, professional, or international) ever. That's like comparing the popularity of Charles Barkley to that of Michael Jordan. You "can" make that comparison but it's not a particularly close one, at all.

Regarding Clark's place in history, she's the most "hyped" women's basketball player since Diana Taurasi 20+ years ago. Candace Parker, Brittney Griner, Elena Delle Donne, Breanna Stewart, and Sabrina Ionescu all received considerable attention for all or most of their college basketball careers but the coverage for Clark is on a different level. Honestly, the best NBA comparison is probably LeBron James. While Clark's impact as a NCAA player didn't quite change the game like LeBron did in HS (wherein his games were weekly fare on his personal adver....erm...ESPN), it's comparable in the sense that they are both seen as "transcendent" figures who will change the way the game is viewed at the professional level. You can say what you want about LeBron's career (everybody does lol), but the hype surrounding his debut was unprecedented and I'm getting a very similar feel from the coverage of Clark on the WNBA side.

There is nothing unique about Cardoso or Reese. They are great players, but would anyone be mad if top 10 draft picks didn't get national hype in the preseason in any other year?

Caitlin Clark might entirely flop, but she was a transcendent GOAT in college. It makes logical sense she would get more hype Day 1.

South Carolina and LSU will be great again next year. Iowa will be lucky they win a tournament game
