Most of the mods that had a problem with the new leadership have already dipped out. The rest, I guess, are just following along with the new rules because they hope Fandom's got the right idea for how to improve the community.

Yeah this is killing my interest in this site, unfortunately.

They not only deleted it, but modded a bunch of the people's posts in it, so they deliberately went through, modded people and only THEN decided to deleted the topic. Can you imagine being that pathetic?

They enjoy the power they get. Otherwise they wouldn't troll and insult users when they complain about obviously unfair moderations and changes to the rules.

Because if they dont, Fandom will take away their power.

The kind of people who want power are never the kind of people who should have it. But since they're just moderators on a dying video game forum instead of cops or politicians, it's just kind of sad.

One thing I've always found funny about moderating here is you'll make a harmless joke about some sort of celebrity or whatever and get modded for offensive. Obviously there is a line to walk, like I wouldnt say anybody here is a loser, but some of the things I've been moderated for in the past seemed so harmless I think the person who was offended should have to step up and say why.

I'm actually fine with the no politics rule. No one in the year 2024 has ever had their mind changed arguing politics on the Internet.

I'm getting the sense that "news" and "politics" are being used interchangeably in terms of moderation. E.g. If someone posts news, it's probably got a political slant in some way shape or form, which allows the mods to delete it.

I don't think so but who knows. It got deleted for trolling on the basis that I was spreading conspiracy theories, which doesn't make sense to me. I just pointed out that Boeing murdered another whistleblower.

Let's be honest, though - literally no one is going to just post "hey, this is happening" without adding their own snide take on it. Which is where the political part comes in.

Like it or not, realize it or not, accept it or not, pretty much everyone adds their own biases when discussing current events. Even choosing which stories to mention and which to ignore (let alone which news sites you choose to link to) is playing into bias.

Most current events discussion (both on this site and in general) always devolves into stupidity. And there's no real reason for it to be here in the first place.

Video games news? Sure. Pop culture news at a stretch, maybe. But global events and outright political discussion, no.

And none of this is helped by the number of people making "ha ha gotcha" topics alluding to political stuff as a protest against being told they can't talk about political stuff, because Internet activism in general is about on par with a 12-year old throwing a tantrum because they don't want to eat their vegetables. Which does very little to prove that people here are mature enough to be discussing complex socio-political issues in the first place.


(And aside from all that, let's not pretend the protests specifically aren't inherently political in and of themselves - even just mentioning them is politicizing the discussion. Because their entire existence is political.)

There's "no real reason" for any of the social boards to exist at all. To single out any particular topics of discussion (especially such broad, poorly-defined ones as "politics") as being pointless makes very little sense. Aside from those with defined topicality (like Sports or Religion), social boards have evolved naturally to just be places where people talk about whatever's on their mind with no concerns about topicality. Certain topics have had to be made off-limits for the sake of keeping everything civilized and in line with the ToS, but other than that these are boards where pretty much anything goes.

If you're going to start nitpicking about what discussions "belong" here, PotD should be wholly replaced by the Actual Poll of the Day board, and if that's what you actually want, you should probably just leave.

The only discussions that don't devolve into stupidity here are the ones that start stupid from the first post (that's why I start my topics off as inanely as possible -- the quality of discourse can only go up!)

So it seems like a perfect place for political discussions to me.

Generally speaking, I agree with the rest of your post, except this part.

I regularly would simply post a headline of something, link the article, and paste the article text. Nothing else. No bolding, no editorializing, no additional input from me. My entire topic creation style for newsworthy articles was designed to avoid TC slants and just let people talk.

Under this new regime, I don't even know if I can post news anymore.
