There has to be a political reason to put that story in the book. That kind of thing would not get past an editor without a good reason. My theory is that she knew it would get the media to talk about it, and allow herself to go on Fox News and defend herself. It would give her lots of free publicity, which is exactly what happened.

She touted the book as being anti woke.

She thinks not killing animals is being woke. She's a deranged lunatic

I was a political science major in college. I have been feverishly following politics my entire adult life. And I watched in the 90s as Rush, Fox and Newt laid the groundwork for the GOP descent into ridiculous insanity.

And: I still cant believe this happened, even with the GOP as far round the bend as it is. The fact that Noem did this is deranged. The fact that she proudly wrote about it in her book as something people would want to know about her: also deranged. I sincerely cant believe this has happened-it is just horrific.

I know people keep saying this, but all these days later it is still unbelievable.

Anti-woke is just another trigger the libs buzzword.

She sounds disturbed and not right in the head. She does represent drump, repiblicans, and maga to a t. She shouldnt hold a position at a grocery store any more than any role of imporrance in the the government.

This story DOES remind me of when Ben Carson told the story of trying to stab one of his friends and just coming off looking like an absolute psychopath. lol

Holy crap, I completely forgot about that! And isn't he the one who claimed this happened, and then a bunch of people from his life said that it was a lie? Everyone who knew him said he was actually quite a normal even tempered person, and that this never happened. And when some news outlet approached Carson and said that everyone in his life denied this happened, he doubled down and said not only did this happen, but it was a close relative of his instead of a friend? I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure this is how that whole thing went down.

So: Carson tells this crazy story, then he gets an out because the people who know him best say it is impossible, and then he ratchets up the crazy because that is all MAGA responds to.

And I knew this and completely forgot about it. Because the GOP and everyone in it is so bad faith, cruel and ridiculous that every day just brings another plunge past the bottom of the barrel to the center of the earth. Good God.

you're making the same mistake people have been making about the current crop of right-wingers in the US and the UK for the past 10 years. Assuming that there are calculated reasons for their dumb behaviour. the truth is the simplest answer: no, they REALLY ARE that dumb.

I think its the other way around. Weve been dismissive of right wingers, and they are using that to slowly take over. They took over one major social media platform and are shutting another down, they control the legislatures in almost every swing state, they even have a plan for if they take over the White House in 2025. We dismiss them because of the dumb stuff, but we forget that they are mostly controlled by billionaire funded think tanks.

This is a calculated move by Noem to get some good press on her side by getting bad press on the other side knowing full well that we will all forget this in a couple of weeks when the next Republican does a reprehensible thing and the pattern repeats.

All that will remain is her side remembering there was a time when she was attacked by the liberal press.

Shes trying to do what Trump did leading up to 2016. Stay in the news by saying the most batshit crazy, stupid and offensive shit you can think of and you eventually become a serious contender somehow.

The difference is that Trump seemed to get an infinite amount of benefit of the doubt. There was always someone sitting behind a desk at Fox News reading Now, this is what he really meant off a teleprompter. I dont think anyones saying that about her.

At least when Mike Pence bullshitted for 2 minutes, you would forget the original question.
