Eventually. Obi-Wan basically had Vader's number until he got old and Vader got angrier.

He also trained the Chosen One, beat Vader twice, set Luke on the path to greatness, and saved Princess Leia's life. Dude is absolutely a beast.

Then too. You think he lost to Vader because Vader was better?

He literally threw the fight to motivate Luke.

There's a canon novel called "From A Certain Point of View" that's basically a collection of short stories told from the point of view of various characters from the original movie. One of those stories, Time of Death, recounts the Ben Kenobi/Darth Vader duel from Ben's perspective and makes it clear that Ben was losing the fight.

He was losing anyway, and he knew that if he was still alive, Luke would try to rescue him. So Ben sacrificed himself to make sure that Luke and the others could freely leave without him. Then, with his very first force-ghost action, he said, and I quote: "Run, Luke! Run!"

Obi-Wan failed on several levels though. He failed to guide Anakin through his training because he couldnt break from the rigid thinking of the Jedi, couldnt bring himself to kill Anakin on Mustafar (which would have been a tremendous act of mercy in comparison to leaving him to die in agony next to a river of lava), and managed to get a whopping days worth of training with Luke in before dying because he failed to convince Owen Lars that Luke was one of the best chances for bringing down the Empire.

The dude wasnt even up to snuff as a lightsaber duelist, with his only notable victories being against Maul (through sheer surprise), Greivous (who want in top fighting form), and Anakin (who was tremendously unbalanced due to his recent shift to the Dark Side). Obi-Wan got his ass handed to him so many times, and the canon of him being a master of the most defensive form of lightsaber combat dont mean squat if he rarely ever turns it to his advantage.
