Can we please make this ONE exception and finally outlaw rapid tap prompts?

I am so glad Stellar Blade put an accessibility option to have 1 press instead of rapid mashing for fishing

Spoderman did that too, and I'm glad. Button mashing is a pain in the ass.

My mom - who typically only plays cozy games - was actually able to get to the end of Kirby and the Forgotten World, but for the life of her couldn't beat the final boss because they just had to include a button mashing section. Sad.

It really depends on the game and how tight the windows of completing the mashing is.

I've noticed some games recently are really, really tight on the tuning with button mashing.

I think it was Dave the diver which has the option to hold the button, however that didn't work right and would fail most of the time, so you still had to mash.

Another one is stick waggle. It "had it's day" when RE4 released, but modern games need to get rid of this...

... and Borderlands-style feet-riveted-to-the-ground as darkness looms "Fight For Your Life" thrashing needs to end.

I think consoles pressure developers to add this to certain games so they can sell more controllers.

What gets me about the stick spinning parts in Kirby is the fear that it'll fuck up the joycons. I've sent in all of my joycons for stick drift already and two have developed it again, then they want me to spin the stick around wildly for no reason? Get outta here with that.

Spinning a stick, as long as there wasn't something wrong with the stick lever mechanism before you started, is like "stretching the muscles" of the controller pieces that re-center the sticks. Stick *clicks* however gradually eat into the controller piece that forces the stick back to center.

[ Doing L3 and R3 clicks in Borderlands 2 destroyed one of my favorite controllers. ] -_-

I don't trust the spins, I tell ya. But also honestly clicking in sticks usually sucks even when it doesn't break the controller. You hafta press it in just right to avoid also pushing it and moving in a direction you don't want to. And it also feels like it's gonna break the controller.

At a point, though, it doesn't work anymore.

I'm working on fighting a boss right now that hits you with a move that has little telegraph and makes you rapid tap to avoid one hit killing you. And no, no abilities can prevent it, even the ones that are specifically purposed to let you survive instant death moves. And it's fast. Like, I dunno, I don't count because I'm furiously tapping as fast as I can but it's definitely at least five taps a second the first time he does it and faster every time. I have managed to survive it twice on a couple of runs but if he casts it a third time, I'm convinced it's impossible.

Where exactly the cutoff for too fast would be, I have no idea. It's probably subjective. I'd rather they just stop doing it entirely.

KH Birth by Sleep.

It's a super boss, but even so.

He also just generally one hit kills you without special abilities that rescue you from it. It's a pain in the ass battle, but really the whole game was kind of a pain in the ass.

Right? If I'm playing Smash and I get caught with Steve's minecart or a grab or something, I'm like "Fuck it, I'll just take the L, I'm not breaking my controller over this"

Well, I'm still working through the series but so far I like the two numbered games. The side games have issues but they're mostly ok. This is the first one I just had a lot of issues with
