Right now I am am shopping for a car (unrepairable deer damage to my old Civic ) and I've been looking for the last couple days. These two stick out as the best deals so far.

A 2021 Civic with 5,000 miles for $20k. Certified pre owned which is a nice bonus. Seems to be a great deal. In my area there's the exact same car model with 60k+ miles on them for the same price. Comes with a lot of technology which would be nice bonus, but not essential for me. My old car didn't even have Bluetooth lol. As long as I can use aux that's enough for me.

Or a 2005 Corolla with 115,000 miles for $6k. Only had one owner and all of the services were reported to Carfax so I know that's nothing to worry about. It averages 5k miles a year which I feel is crazy low. Carfax says it had one accident which made me a little weary but that was in 2006 lol. My main worry about this would be possible rusting damage because it was in Massachusetts a lot of that time and I don't know if they regularly washed the underside.

As far as money goes, I haven't had a car payment in a while so I've been able to save up so I am able to purchase the Civic outright. Which is nice because I'm trying to avoid paying any interest on a loan. But if I can save 14k, that's a decent chunk of change.

No matter how reliable some of the older vehicles are I just cant get behind the idea of an almost 20 year old vehicle with 100,000+ miles on it. At that point Im looking to get rid of them, not acquire them.

I understand there is a financial aspect to this but its like like you are talking about a $60,000 new vehicle vs the Toyota. Youre talking about a 20K Civic which in itself is a really reliable vehicle and is 3 years old and practically brand new with how little mileage is on it.

For a $14,000 difference to me this is an easy choice. The used Civic all the way.

Yeah you're right. And 6k is still a lot of money for a 20 year old car... even a Toyota with that low of mileage. With great luck, I can hope for another 130k more miles on it but it's pretty certain that the Civic would get to 200k with regular maintenance.

Are the roads salted in winter where you are?

That is you answer.
Even if I could have saved my '03 Saab, the salt was going to get it anyway. :-(

It sounds like you really want the Civic. 20 K is a lot . But if you want that go for it, or find one that is cheaper. And with 5K miles that is a new car.

Well and also buying used cars isn't what it used to be 15yrs ago. Now you really need something with some kind of history of matainence.

Because newer vehicles have too many flaws and drivers have gotten worse on how the cars are treated and sold.

I'd go with the Civic. I sold my 2016 Civic to a Honda dealership in 2022 (traded for an Accord). They put it on their site for $21k with 80k miles on it.

So $20k for a 2021 Civic with only 5k miles is a steal.

is the civic a 1.5 or 2.0 engine? if it's the 2.0, get it 100%. if it's the 1.5, it might have an issue w/ oil dilution. The problem was fixed in recent years so a 2021 may not have that issue, just something to consider.
the 2.0 engines basically last forever.

corolla's have a very solid engine too, you'll need to get it looked at to check for oil burning at around 150k, but once that's out of the way it can easily last 250+ k miles.

What would you get?
A newer Tundra, like an '19 4x4. I have a Camry that's old too but for my circumstances I need a solid truck at all times. My truck has over 300k miles, runs good though (knock on wood).

For a car I'll be getting a new Camry too when need be,XLE. Just don't trust models made during the pandemic.

Yeah they do seem to hold their value well.

Wow I know nothing about engines so thanks for this info. It's a 2.0 luckily!
