Following and coattail riding off its success, nostalgia, plot lines, characters and extending upon both them and the lore of their respective era. Ashoka and Thrawn especially. Compare this to the OG where none of the above is being done. And the sequel era? lol. We could have had a long running series similar to the legends books by now but the sequel trilogy literally undermined all of it. Literally the entire purpose of all three is to explain away "somehow, Palpatine returned" and give background to the First Order. It's trying to do exactly what Clone Wars did for the prequels. Felt like a big waste of time. Rise of Skywalker is pure trash. Just awful, made zero sense and was not good in almost any way.
