I can't see this working out just because what makes SSB work is that there's a lot of visual diversity with characters and you can easily differentiate who's who just by silhouettes. With Marvel a huge chunk of characters are humans with normal human proportions

disney and marvel would want it out the door in 2 years tops and likely license it out to game mill entertainment

Eh... Maybe if they use all of their comic IP's and don't just make it an MCU based game like MvC Infinite

I would love a Marvel game that was similar to Smash Bros., albeit with a way to make flying characters work with the gameplay.

I wish Marvel and DC would work together on a Smash game. They recently republished an old 90s crossover comic of Marvel vs DC. This points to the 2 being friendly again. So maybe now is an opportune time to make a Marvel vs DC game

It's a shame how that game turned out. The storyline was actually really good. I loved Kamala's intro. But it was ruined by that horrible games as a service model

Why not go the extra mile and make this the next Marvel vs. Capcom game

I'd kall that a lesser part of it. It works not only becuase of the large pool of recognisable characters, but more so the king-of-the-hill platformer battle royale game design that allows said characters to show off more of their traits and abilitys than your typical traditional fighting game or Beat 'em Up. Kombine that with the potential chaos of 4 or 8 players and the level of detail/polish in all the mechanics that make those visually distict characters possible, and you have the real reason why there will never be a Smash-killer.

That said, if Marvel (or DC. ) kould rip-off Smash to a T, quality and all, 50 to 80 characters, and without letting Disney or whoever fuck it up with greedy or brain-dead decision-making, there's no reason to believe it wouldn't sell like hot kakes. Effortlessly dwarfing all the Smash imitators who have tried to get by on the roster alone.

You know, now that you mention it. Disney does own a ton of properties. They could almost do a legitimate version of the old Everything vs Everything (EvE) pack for Mugen. It was basically a mod for an open source fighting game engine that had 1000's of characters from all over. Anime, MvC, Street Fighter, SNK, Family Guy, The Simpsons, etc. If Disney could get anywhere close to that they'd be the GOATs
