I was at a 4 way stop where I stopped third. After the second person went through the person behind the first person cut me off and flipped me off (I had started going before he did). I was turning left and he was going straight. Was I wrong to assume that we go in order of who stopped first at a 4 way stop?

My understanding is the first to stop *at the intersection* is the first to go. The second to stop *at the interesection* is the second to go, etc. It doesnt matter if you stopped and theres someone directly ahead of you, you still have to stop at the stop sign one the person in front of you goes.

But I could be wrong because I posted this on my citys subreddit once and got downvoted to hell and got called an idiot.

You always go in the order you arrived at the stop. If the person immediately to your right gets there at the same time you do, you let them go first, but this can be iffy in practice because hardly anyone seems to be aware of this rule. Nobody knows what the fuck to do at four-way stops.

The other person in this scenario was in the wrong and is a bad person. Shame on them.

The guy seemed to want to fight me. For visual reference, I was 3rd and the guy who thought I was wrong was 4th. 1 and then 2 went before he flipped me off.

According to your visual if you did in fact pull up to the intersection before number 4 then it was your turn to go.

normally if cars on opposite directions arrive at the same time (so in the illustration if 3 and 1 arrived at the same time, and 3 was turning left and 1 was going straight), then the left turner must yield. this rule also applies if the 4-way is full and thus cars go 2-by-2 (so east+west go, then north+south),
4 must have assumed yall are playing by 2-by-2 rules since 1 went (east+west) then 2 did (north+south)
However, you arrived before 4 so yeah fuck 4

I was stopped before 1 went through (but they stopped before I did)

I've had 3 people cross ahead of me and almost cause collisions because they didn't want to wait.

Who is in the wrong?

It's a long country road with 2 lanes going opposite direction. Car in front me is being slow so I drive against traffic to try to overtake them and almost hit someone because of the car in front of me decided to speed up when I tried overtaking them.

That's correct. "right of way" comes into play when 2 people come to a stop at a very similar time, and you yield to the person on the right, which doesn't sound like it applies to TC, just saying. TC doesn't sound like they're in the wrong.

The person to the right. If they're straight across from each other, the one going straight.

Interesting. In the UK there's nothing about "turns" based on who arrives when. Just who has right of way based on road position. I'm not quite sure how it would work based on that intersection though.

People around here seem to be stuck thinking that if you're turning left, you're always last to go. I used to regularly turn left from a two-way stop, and if there were multiple cars going straight, usually they all would try to go instead of one going and then the next letting me go. Even if I was stopped before they pulled up.

I literally changed my route because of this garbage.

What was I supposed to do in this situation?

I'm driving the speed limit in the middle lane on a freeway. Traffic is normal. Someone is speeding behind me flashing their high beams at me . Was I really supposed to change lanes even though I wasn't on the passing lane?

I have a four way stop on my route to work and what I often see is where I'll be in position 2 in the example you posted, and someone who's in position 3 will ignore the stop sign if they're turning right and cut me off. There are even times where I'll already be in the intersection and someone will fly up and do that, too. Drives me nuts.

Driving, of all things, is what makes me realize just how stupid and selfish most people are.

I did signal. He flipped me off the moment I started moving into the intersection (but before I started turning).

Reflecting on it more it seems pretty typical behavior of a shirtless sports car driver
