Being printed in the newspaper makes this even worse, because everyone in the neighborhood is guaranteed to know. And a lot of times con artists will go to lottery winners' houses pretending to be distant relatives or old friends that they haven't seen in a long time. Even if you knew they were lying immediately, imagine how unpleasant it would be to deal with that! Which is why it is ridiculous and cruel to force winners to be printed--with photos, no less--in the newspaper. Or even worse, go on TV. Another reason is that most people who win don't know anything about financial planning so they overspend and run out after a few years. For example, they may find themselves with no money in their bank account and a huge mansion with a mortgage they can't pay.
