FF16 being a PS5 exclusive was not doing it any favors, sales-wise.

Honestly I see one more home console gen. Sony and MS are both working on their next gen consoles, so we'll see PS6 and Xbox Series Box X 720.

But with industry turmoil being what it has been, I feel like that's gonna be the last of the rivalry. I sincerely doubt MS will altogether drop out because they have enough money to buy the sun, and Sony is clearly the winner.

I don't think there will be a PS7/Xbox Box Series Pot Spoon Spoon Pot 1080. There will be some sort of collaboration between the two and exclusivity will essentially be dead.

Nintendo will of course continue to Nintendo.

Meh I don't care about console wars stuff these days. If it means more people can play great games like FF7 R1 + 2 then I'm happy. If it also means that SE are more likely to create great games the quality of FF7 R1 + 2 then even better.

People don't care about FF anymore outside of 14. People don't buy FF on Xbox and PC is just gonna take the sales from PS. Remake sold 1 million copies roughly on PC. Rebirth wouldn't have outsold it. SE is just an inept company that should go under.

If you're making a PC version anyway, Xbox is super cheap to develop. Basically all you have to do is recompile and swap out stuff like achievements for equivalent Xbox apis.

FF7 Complete Recompilation is not.

Honestly, unless they heavily restructure and revamp to take advantage of this, it won't save them. I imagine this, combined with their recent comment about moving away from volume on projects and canceling a bunch of stuff is part of their attempt at this. But considering they still have the NFT guy in charge I don't see this working out. Edit: out of date, see below. Their leadership has too much of a disconnect from the product they're making and are more interested in cheap cash-ins than making a good product. (Not the producers mind, the board/executives.)

Pessimistic, perhaps. But I've not really been heavily enthused about new Square Enix stuff for a while, despite FF being one of my favorite series growing up.

Multiplatflorm means people buy things for PC if there's no need to own a PS5/6.

SE has been so out of touch for the last two decades. Not only are they chasing trends that they dont understand, but they dont get shy their own successes worked. Ff7-10 worked because they were completely original, they looked gorgeous, and offered experiences no other company was giving. Now today, ff16 is just a lesser version of an action game, with the most boring setting one could imagine, and a sidequest system that puts a browser game to shame.

The only reason they are alive today is because they made an MMO that doesnt look like a ps2 game, and ff7 nostalgia.

Hmm, I looked into it a bit more because I thought I'd read something recently about how they were still in on it. The most recent I could find was April of last year. That was after they announced the NFT crazy guy was announced to be replaced, but before it happened I think.

So I guess they did replace him. My bad on that, edited the original so I wasn't spreading bad information. Slightly more hope then, that this is the new CEO starting to improve things.

We'll see I guess. It's hard to be optimistic.

While Rebirth and 16 on PC and Xbox is obvious I wonder if this means Kingdom hearts will be on other PC store fronts and not just Epic or if that is a technicality.

I will say given how things are, FF14 is literally the only thing carrying them afloat and there is a good chance Dawntrail will be their last expansion ever made before they go bankrupt and shut down.

And since everything is an x86 anyway and GPUs generally compile their own shaders. It made sense when porting a game meant literally remaking the entire game but today, if going multiplat amounts to anything more than setting a preprocessor directive at compile time, mother-effing shame on the vidja industry.

I disagree, these aspects led to the series downfall in the long term. As the franchise had little to no competition in regards to other AAA RPGS back then. So they were able to get away more easily with wildly different one off titles.

But Once they started branching off into the far more saturated action genre was where its fall off likely started. That and the series lack of consistency didnt help either. I remember in my child hood when every rpg I played was confused for a FF game. Nowadays though? lol.
