  • Emulators will be made illegal and people playing off them will be arrested by police.
  • It is cheaper to criminalize people playing delisted/older games than it is to keep said games on sale. A technicality in laws will be made to get people in jail for playing delisted and retro games.
  • All game companies will have a subscription to even boot up their games, even physically. Want to play the latest Capcom/Square Enix/Konami/EA/Whatever game? You must pay 39.99 a month to even boot it.
  • Games will cost 200 dollars a piece now.
  • Consoles, if they still exist will stop selling indie games, citing "Quality reasons"(AKA they don't want them to overshadow their AAA games)
  • Patches for both consoles and games will be paid. Need to patch that dangerous security exploit on your Xbox? Pay up 19.99 and it'll be patched.
  • For America at least, certain games will be made illegal to own. Do you live in Kentucky and want to play the newest GTA? Move out of state or go through illegal means to get your copy of the game and hope police don't knock at your door.
  • Violence and sex will be butchered hard in games unless they're from a first party developer for advertisor reasons. Think what Youtube did but for gaming.
  • 90% of IPs will be forgotten about entirely and companies think it is a financial risk to even acknowledge them.

Anything else did I miss. This is a realistic take where the future will go, after all.

lots of virtual reality

50/50 odds your gaming is actually work, like in some dystopian Ender's Game. You think you're playing. But you're actually a military mech pilot with a remote connection and those orcs you're shooting are people.

VR will likely be pushed hard, especially with the advancement of technology. And will likely have a lot of security flaws for the government to spy on you.

You don't own the games you purchase, or the hardware you game with, or your save games, or the user-made content you create, or anything you can possess, acquire, or produce.
You do not even own yourself, because you are property of the mega corporations.

Sigs are rather pointless, except if it's to showcase animation and images.

I definitely think they want to eventually phase out the concept of paying a one time price to buy a game which you can then play as much as you want. They'd much rather have you paying a monthly subscription.

Yeah, a lot of companies are already doing this for apps that used to be one-time payments. Microsoft with its Office and Adobe with its Suite are two examples.

I cannot wait for this reality that was totally not thought up on the fly.

Man, Square going multiplatform really got you in your feels today, huh?

The only thing that will realistically happen to gaming in the future is all digital with a subscription service like Gamepass with games full of ads.

  • Nintendo police (known as koopa tropas) will execute anyone emulating old Nintendo games or making Nintendo art or borrowing or reselling Nintendo games.

No. I am actually happy they are multiplatform. Everything else is looking in the glass of how life is going. Companies being as money hungry and controlling as possible and this is the end result of it.

It'll do the whole thing where the successful stuff all merged together (this has actually been happening for a long time already, but even more so) and everything else disappears.

So we'll basically have a couple of indie open world gatcha multiplayer-only Roguelike soulslikes.

A worldwide monopoly of video game companies is a possibility.
