I've never had a reaction like that to an antidepressant, ._.

Hopefully it passes soon, though, :/

Dose may need to be cut back or try a different one. Doesn't sound like you're tolerating it too well especially if it's been weeks.

Yeah I've watched my wife deal with it in the past and it sucks. 2-3 weeks of your body getting used to one med only to find out it doesn't work or has negative side effect. Then 2-3 weeks to get it out of your system before trying the next med with another 2-3 week adjustment period. Took my wife nearly 6 months of that shit before she finally landed on something that worked with minimal side effects.

Also sometimes you get those side effects during the adjustment period and they go away once your body balances out. That's why it's important to keep your doctor updated so they can say yeah this isn't working. Let's try something else.

Just remember it's worth it in the end. Trust me. Yeah that wasn't a great 6 months but the last 7 years she's been doing well on it.

Yeah, sounds like you need a different one. Seriously, a medication that works shouldn't be doing this to you.

Luckily he just started them. If he's been on it for less than 2 weeks, then there probably isn't enough time for chemical dependency to kick in, at least not on a longer-term basis.

So do they just cut off your supply immediately or ease you off them gradually with weaker doses overtime? Former seems awfully dangerous in my opinion.

Not to mention the sexual side effects. You'll either be a horny machine or the idea of sex sounds nice, but nah. Or your libido won't change at all.

Oof. Well, hope you're taking steps to prevent friction issues...I'm trying not to be totally gross here but I'm sure you're picking up on what I'm saying.

I probably need to be on them still, but my prescription ran out in December and I was too lazy to go to the doctor to get a new one so I just quit cold turkey and that was fucking miserable. No change in mood, so I'm not sure they were actually even doing anything at this point, just the physical effects were terrible.

Never had that experience when I was on them. For me they just put me in a "neutral" mood, whereas my natural state is clinically depressed. Never referred to them as "happy pills" because that wasn't my experience, more like "gives you a chance at being happy" pills.

I hope they end up working out better for you, TC.

Yup happy pills is a misconception. They are suppose to balance you out and bring your default mood from depressed to neutral. You are still in charge of creating your own happiness like everyone else.

Adderall isn't really for Depression though. Maybe if you're depressed because your ADHD makes you out of wack.

Straterra is supposed to treat depression, but I guess in people with TBI? It didn't do much for my ADHD.

Took a while for Adderall to work too, I had to be on 15mg for like 2 weeks.

About 20 years ago I remember reading the drug info from Walgreens on my Adderall. At the time it is WAS being used as a depression treatment. Don't really know if it still is.

I think the FDA recommends not taking amphetamines or being VERY careful if you have depression now. Stimulants seems kind of weird as an anti-depression treatment as opposed to MAOIs or Strattera or Lexapro anyway.
