If you've been following it, it's been quickly evolving in even the last year. Hell, records were being broken just a few weeks ago.

It's just interesting seeing that those who are breaking the records are extremely young. With good reason. They have the most time to dedicate and focus compared to adults, but also, the method at which they play is something I know I certainly couldn't keep pace with. Arthritis in my hands and I can't pretzel my body like that, lol. Not to mention the split second decision making needed for complete random Tetris at that speed? Can't do it. These are records only the youth can achieve.

This guy is a master at editing and using music.

Theres only 1 record that matters in NES Tetris, and its the guy (quad8) that TASed a full loop from Level 00 to 255 over a decade ago, while figuring out all the obstacles (glitched level numbers, colors, line counts, crashes, etc.) for the first time.

All of the kiddies playing competitive NES Tetris today are just piggybacking off his discoveries.

Youve posted in several speedrunning topics about things like this and it proves you have no idea what youre talking about

No shit people piggyback off TAS discoveries, thats literally why they exist. TAS shows what is possible within the constraints of the game, the whole point of speedrunning and high score stuff like tetris is seeing what unassisted human hands can do with that knowledge.

It was really good. Finished it earlier after starting last night. Didnt think the scores would keep getting as high as they did as the video progressed.

TAS is a talentless endeavor that only requires time and patience to find the optimal route.

It is a separate and more impressive matter when human potential is able to reach that maximum. Such as Niftski playing Super Mario Bros. close to replicating TAS runs.

A TAS is like a test run showing what is theoretically possible. Its not talentless at all and TAS is really important to making new discoveries and time saves

Such an insanely good video. This one is an all-timer.

As one of the comments said, you know it's a banger when the score cap has been reached in the first twenty minutes of the video and there's still an hour and forty minutes left.

It just gets more and more wild the further it goes. I was hooked.

I legitimately felt bad when the video got to the part about Fractal losing out on a world's first he realistically deserved to Scooti. After YEARS of theorycrafting and grinding, he gets to watch as someone who wasn't even on anyone's radar a few weeks prior gets to meet the creator of tetris and go on a media tour while Fractal got... nothing. Not to downplay Scooti's skill, but that's still a pretty devastating thing to miss out on.

A few years ago I went to a gaming expo and there was a Tetris competition. I'm pretty good and the first to put up a decent score, it was over 200k for my first go.

I'm feeling good for all about 15 minutes when these dudes rolled in and started taping up their fingers. First one puts up like 600k and it wasn't long before they were hitting 999k. My soul was crushed and that's when I learn about these crazy Tetris controller techs.

The entirety of speedrunning is based off piggybacking off other people's discoveries, you really have no idea what you're talking about.

Sure, but most speedrunning WRs don't go viral and let you meet the game's creator and go on a press tour, so the frequency with which it happens doesn't necessarily negate the sting, especially since this WASN'T a guy who could only break the game, but a WR contender actively pushing for a record he was realistically only a few days/weeks away from achieving.
