Every singer basically operates in the same few ranges nowadays. You'll never hear a super deep male voice like Barry White or that strong raspy-ish female voice like Tina Turner. It all sounds so...similar now.

That does seem to be what gets the most airplay, but one advantage of web publishing is that people without a large audience can still put out their music and reach people who appreciate their talents. Colm McGuinness for example has a tremendous range:

This is especially easy in the era of streaming, metrics, and analysis. It's just about producing the sounds that most reliably translate into money.
