I meant to watch Godzilla back in 2014 but I never got around to it, and now I'm way behind. Do you recommend any of these movies?

As long as you go into them without expecting any serious or deep plot, theyre really fun movies.

I'm not a fan of the US films, though Skull Island is probably the best. They have too much bloat with uninteresting protagonists. There are some fun fights, but they are also a bit too cartoony.

Can you say David Hasselhoff?

2014 (and Skull Island) are the most grounded movies, with each one getting more cartoony after that. For me, King of the Monsters was the best, and I probably won't get another one that I like as much for some time. I had lots of fun with GVK and New Empire, but IMO they arent as good.

Surprisingly, New Empire is actually good in "we came to watch big monsters do stuff". It doesn't overly focus on the useless humans like Godzilla vs. Kong.

I really disliked 2014, but loved Skull Island. I haven't watched the ones past those.

I only saw King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong.

KotM was immense fun on the first viewing, but once your fanservice has been sated after the first viewing it kinda sucks. Aside from the Serizawa scene

I need to watch Godzilla vs. King again, but it felt like the better film to follow, even if the plot is stupid (and thats by Godzilla movie standards, which is saying something).

Agreed, it was fun, as long as you go in with a clear head and understand that a movie of this type is NOT going to change your lives. It's just a dumb action movie, and they put it together in a competent manner.

Speaking of New Empire, I wonder who the lunatic that chose the soundtrack and licensed music was. Fuckin' mad genius sort of person.

Yeah, i was initially dreading watching it after seeing the trailer. I hated GvK, loved the previous installments. While it was ridiculous, i thought it hit all the same notes of the old Toho movies. And the soundtrack was crazy good. Basically, if James Gunn directed a Kong movie.
