So it seems my back is a pile of **** now, but a surgery isn't necessary at this point.

I stayed out of gyms form several months because of this issue and I just now started working out again, mostly focusing on core muscles, like abs and not doing things that would hurt my back, like squats.

Anyone else with herniated discs and how do you cope with it?

Time and patience, mostly. Gotta do the light exercises on your back, but emphasis on light.

Look at doing some planking, it's low impact and can absolutely help with herniated discs. And good-old fashioned walking, (at a slower pace), is also beneficial.
Good luck!

I had to get surgery for mines because it lasted over a year and it got so bad that laying down hurt so much the only way I could sleep was to be in a very specific fetal position that was just overall bad for my back in general. I for sure got it doing dead lifts, which is why now I'm only doing stuff like squats and RDL's now.

Don't have a hernia myself, but my mom and best friend both have multiple. And this is pretty much the advice they got from several doctors with surgery being a very distant second.
