Sounds reasonable? I don't feel like partisan politics should remotely play any role in requesting and providing federal aid for disaster relief situations, you're playing with human lives at that point.

If you don't believe the federal government should involve itself in state issues, then you shouldn't be asking for aid.

Defying the Supreme Court should disqualify Texas from any federal help for anything. If the citizens don't like it, then stop electing people who defy the courts.

if Biden gives them aid, Abbott will blast him for grandstanding and using a tragedy to score points. And his base will eat it up.

It's not Joe Biden holding up the aid, it's Greg Abbott's refusal to follow the simple steps that would get the aid into the state.

Abbott, the guy who infamously told the Biden administration and the federal government's supreme authority on immigration outlined by the Cons. to go fuck itself, is now begging him for help.

Biden will help him because it's the right thing to do and a Repub would do the opposite, because Dems don't want to intentionally hurt people for political theater/gain, but damn do I hate this reality.

I hope Biden is able to at least get some concession from Abbott over this, immoral as it may be. Dude's out of control.

I feel like they shouldnt be able to ask for funds like this but not have a state income tax. This is just another instance of red states leeching off blue states.

I'm a Texas resident. Harris County is basically the entire of Houston and it's outlying residential areas. 4.7 million people.

Last year Abbott, blood criminal that he is, outlawed multiple ballot boxes for counties. That means nearly 5 million people, more than some entire states, only get one box to use.

Voter Suppression is rampant in TX which is why Republicans keep winning. Yes there are some old NIMBY racist boomers but they are losing steam

Even so, the implication of the post is that I (a citizen) am tacitly complicit in government overreach when the truth is I just can't afford to get arrested so outside of voting there's little else I can do about it.

I don't really know how to say it but if you have the greater numbers you guys need to overthrow them somehow even if extrajudicially.

The dems need to put up billboards all over the state showing Texas GOP hypocrisy, while giving the state the aid it needs and pointing out that voting for fascists doesnt stop DC from helping them.

And that would just make them vote for Republicans more. They can do anything they want. They vote for people who want to hurt black people, Trans people ,ect . And no that if something ever happen to the Democrats would still have their backs. In red states, Obama provided funding for Medicaid expansion that wouldn't have negatively impacted the states. However, many of these states still refused the offer.

They get their money regardless of a state income tax, its a trick to get people to live there. They think its cheaper cause they dont have to pay a state income tax, but they get taxed in every other way more, so it the same or worse overall.

Theyre also motivated by different types of events. Republicans tend to be more likely to vote when its against something.

Democrats are the exact opposite, tending to show up to vote for popular policies.

Although theres a lot of crossover votes due to abortion so who knows.

This means that Travis County shifted 25.7 points to the left in 20 years, Dallas County shifted 16.1 points to the left, Harris County shifted 10.8 points to the left, Hays County shifted 16.8 points to the left, Fort Bend County shifted 12.5 points to the left, and Bexar County shifted 11.7 points to the left. Denton County went from going 71.2% for Perry to only going 55.7% for Abbott, a drop of 15.5%, Collin County went from going 74.1% for Perry to only going 54.3% for Abbott, a drop of 19.8%, and Williamson County went from going for Perry by 68.3% to only going 49.4% for Abbott, a drop of 18.9%.
The cities have gotten bluer, and the suburbs are getting more purple. Texas is absolutely becoming more competitive, and the DNC should absolutely keep chipping away at the state. The only reason it doesn't feel like any progress is being made is because people keep expecting a state that's bigger than EVERY European country to magically turn blue or purple in one election cycle.

People's lives are at stake. Give them the aid.
