Not exactly the same as I do Mario Kart, so it's just short tracks in less 2-3 minutes time(most of the time), but that doesn't mean I won't play the same track hundreds, to thousands times in a row.

It's the chase, and the satisfaction of getting a PR, or a WR.

Honestly, most of them already sound like they're going insane, with the clips I've seen.

Speedrunning doesn't seem that fun to me. Seems very stressful and I imagine it's even worse when these folks have to defend their records. Whatever floats their boat though.

Yeah, I don't get the appeal either. It would turn games into a chore for me instead of fun.

When its small bite sized speedrunning, I can see the appeal and appreciate the feeling of how you think you mastered something and hit your limit, but that competitiveness kicks in and someone else pushes you into new territory.

Example. Someone was posting their Mario Maker levels here and after playing a few of them I noticed another CEman was playing them then too and beating my times. And just like that I had unintentionally entered a speedrunning tag match. I would shave off a few seconds, only for them to eventually do the same. It was fun, wish I remember the maker or other player.

I can see myself doing it for something like a Metroid game after I finish it. But being involved in the community and spending morning until night working to break records? Nah.

You instantly die if you enter out-of-bounds, which extends up from the bottom of the level until it hits a floor or a ceiling. Some parts of out-of-bounds leak out from the floor due to various complicated reasons, but you never die from them because you just get pushed out by the game. The edge the player was over has a few pieces of out-of-bounds leaking through, but the bottom of the ice block that pushed him into the water (which keeps moving even after it falls through the stage) stopped it from leaking out long enough that he could enter it, and then it moved out of the way, putting him out-of-bounds and instantly killing him. These segments of out-of-bounds are incredibly tiny, and it is incredibly unlikely you will ever run into them during normal gameplay.

I'd feel that for 99% of games, but something like Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time I could probably play 12 hours a day if I was making money.

I can find speedrunning enjoyable depending on the game. Like Mario 64 is fun to speed run because of all the precise jumps/movements you have to make, so when you actually manage to pull it off it can be very satisfying.

That said, when it gets to the point where you pretty much have that stuff down but you're just trying to shave a few seconds off of your time, that's when the appeal of it is lost on me.
