My memory of Friends is hazy but IIRC it was lore that Monica used to be fat with the catchphrase of "Last week I lost 5 pounds!" with frequent jokes about her obesity and eating habits. I've seen a lot of people complaining about it recently alongside white actors playing other races as uncomfortable dated things from old TV shows but I never watched that much Friends so I'm curious on what other people's takes are. Definitely an early 90s - mid 2000s type of joke and I could see younger generations losing their minds over it because they seem to enjoy finding things to be offensive and problematic.
Also I cant believe how people say Friends isnt good or isnt funny. I just finished watching through it for the first time last week and I thought it was amazing.
