Are U.S. politics and government fundamentally broken? At this point it's like the politics equivalent of "spaghetti code". Here are some things off the top of my head:

  1. Lifetime Tenure for Supreme Court Justices and Judicial Overreach: The lifetime appointment of Supreme Court justices has led to increased politicization of the court, and Judicial overreach doesn't help.
  2. Imperial Presidency: "Imperial Presidency" refers to the significant expansion of presidential powers beyond their constitutional limits, often at the expense of the legislative and judicial branches. This trend has raised concerns about the balance of power in the U.S. political system.
  3. Lack of a Supreme Electoral Authority: The absence of a central, authoritative body overseeing elections leads to inconsistencies and disputes.
  4. First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) System: The FPTP electoral system and the lack of proportional representation result in a Congress that does not accurately reflect the populace.
  5. Difficult Constitutional Amendment Process: The process to amend the Constitution is exceedingly complex, making significant changes nearly impossible.
  6. Campaign Finance Issues: Campaign finance laws allow the wealthy to exert disproportionate influence on politicians, leading to a system that can be easily manipulated by money.
  7. Gerrymandering: The practice of gerrymandering, without independent redistricting commissions, undermines fair representation.

Politics in many western countries are fucked and intentionally kept fucked.

And 'fuck you for wanting things to be better' is essentially the answer given by the supposed progressives.

Yes.

And you will need some kind of massive upheaval/third party to do it, as neither Dems nor Republicans really want to change a system that they expect to be benefitting them within four years.

Broken beyond repair.

Not that it was perfect to begin with, mind you.
