The state in which my vehicle is registered, only requires a rear plate.

The state in which I reside requires both, but I'm not changing my registration. $20 to renew a year and no emissions checks can't be beat.

Yep, both are required here. It was always funny to see assholes with hypercars throw a fit about having to put a front plate on

In Britain you are required to have front and back number plates.

It is against the law if your vehicle doesn't have front and back number plates.

As of 2022 Ohio requires only rear plates. Now every suburb has Flock cameras.

Front and back for most vehicles. I believe motorbikes only need the front one; while trailers (obviously) only need rear.

They are cameras that read license plate numbers of everyone that drives by and store them. They also notify the police if a stolen car or warrant drives by.

Rear plate only. Pennsylvania.

It seems that's a recent change.

This reminds me of something funny that happened to me about five years ago.

I get home from work and go to the mailbox. Inside was a bill from the New York State Bridge Authority for unpaid tolls. I've never driven a single inch in New York in my life, so I don't know what's going on. I look over the bill, and on the second page, there is a picture of the offending vehicle. It had the exact same plate number I have in PA, but it was an Ohio plate. Their AI caught someone dodging tolls and mistook it for me. The funniest thing about this was that the picture showed the front of the vehicle, and as stated above, PA doesn't have front plates. I call the number on the bill to dispute it, they see the snafu, we have a good laugh, and I'm off the hook.

Kind of a pain in the ass, but hilarious nonetheless.

In Maryland, front and back plates are required.

However I just bought a new car and it's got the dealer tags on the back and nothing in the front. When my plates come in, I'm gonna trial keeping only the back plate and seeing how long it takes the law to have a problem with that.
