Watched Rise a few years back and really liked it, not sure why I didnt watch the others.

With the new one coming out I got motivated to watch this and damn this is even better

I went in blind and I was initially slightly disappointed to see it was years after humanity fell and not during the time it was falling. Ceaser is more likable in this and its cute seeing him as a dad. Can totally see why Koba would hate humans. There wasnt anything overly complex about it but it was effective.

Slight negative and not to be that guy but sometimes the cgi was underwhelming

Ive only watched 2 matt reaves films (this and the batman) and I really dug both so Im really digging his work. Will watch war and kingdom soon

Im not sure wether I land at an 8 or 9 out of 10, leaning 9 but solid ass movie. Better than rise which i liked too

I love all three, but I think the second is my favorite.

As much as I detest James Francos scandalous behavior, his relationship with Caesar in the first one was heartwarming. Richard Jenkins also killed it in portraying someone suffering from dementia. Then theres the NOOOOOO!!! scene

Easily.

War was.... disappointing. And idk if I'd even say that, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Is anyone else somewhat baffled by how the names seem backwards? Like... Rise of the Planet of the Apes is first one, and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is the second one. It seems like a reality in which apes run a planet would need to dawn before the apes themselves rise.

I think they should have named all 3 of those movies differently but with the same words.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes should have been called Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes should have been called War for the Planet of the Apes.

War for the Planet of the Apes should have been called Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn -> War -> Rise should have been the name order for this trilogy, makes more sense story wise based on what happens in each movie.

This always bothers me lol.

And I guess Im in the minority because I thought that Dawn was the weakest of the trilogy. Not a bad movie at all, but Id go Rise > War > Dawn (havent seen the new one yet though but Im planning on going this weekend).

The filmmakers named the first in the 2010s trilogy "Rise" simply because it was the first one. They had no idea of what they wanted the sequels to be like.

But I don't think you need hindsight to realize that the first one should have been called "Dawn". Surely they always intended for it to get a sequel and by the time the screenplay was finalized, they should have realized that "Dawn" would have been a more fitting title.

6/10 from me
Im curious what you think a 10/10 movie is. What are a few examples of a 10/10 movie for you?

Dawn is a 10/10 movie for me, along with movies like Inception, Dune Part Two, Everything Everywhere All at Once, Godzilla Minus One, The Dark Knight, just to name a few 10s of mine.

Its just crazy to me that someone would rate Dawn a 6 and that other user who said Dawn is the worst of the trilogy, but to each their own I guess.

He's not here to actually debate, he's here to flail around for 150 posts until people finally stop responding to him.

I agree Rise and Dawn can get a little mixed. They still work though. The first movie is definitely the uprising of the apes. By the end of the 2nd, we know we're at the Dawn of a new age.
