The game plays fine but dear god we have gone full trashfire mobile game where there are a billion different currencies and battlepass pages and things to click and claim.

It really is a mess to understand what exactly you are earning.

The single player thing has the presentation of an absolutely ancient mobile game so that's not great

The thing that really bothers me is how they couldn't make the text wrap around correctly in the boxes. Like, if a word extends past the edge of the text box, it will write until it reaches the edge and then the entire word will jump to the next line. That's embarrassing. That's like something you'd see in a Newgrounds game...

The Jump Rope level feels so out of place lmao. That's just a Mario Party minigame

Superman feels broken so far. His uncharged up smash and neutral attack kill at like 80 for some reason and I'm just running over people.

There also seems to be some carry over MMR or something because there's no way there are 100k people playing and I'm playing people who are legit good in 1v1s.

I streamed this for a few hours

Game is fun! some matches had lag but it always went away pretty fast. I've been playing too much fortnite where the servers are horrible and the game doesn't work sometimes so I forgot how its like to play online games that are supposed to work.

but yea I'm concerned over the Offline stuff and getting rewards. I know, its a Free game and needs to make up its money somewhere, but "beat this chapter 5 times in a row" is really really stupid. Its just boring and repetitive. I KNOW thats the point, it might make people rather spend cash than do that, I know

but good lord, its almost offensive how super BLATANT it is about it. "Yea we know theres no effort into this, just spend money then"

And the fact that the first chapter requires the Joker for some of the missions , and he costs TWICE as much as anyone else is a giant middle finger lol

I already play Street Fighter Duel, Overwatch, and Fortnite, I don't know if I can handle another Battle Pass game. ESPECIALLY since Multiversus is much more tedious and more difficult to do than those other 3 combined. (SFD doesn't have a BP but had dailies and shit, thats what I mean. Too many commitments already)

And the Pass for Multiversus isn't even all that good either man >_>

Theres just no appeal for me to put in all of that work.

I think they did a bad job, this might turn alot of people away who doesn't want to do the grinding NOR wants to pay. I think they needed an actual starting roster and not this rotating 5 characters thing

Rift Stars. I have actually no idea what they do tbh

I guess XP counts too

the offline stuff is called Rift, each chapter and EACH DIFFICULTY within those have their own progress bars. The stars advance you on the bars and you unlock and level up badges that way , but they can only be used within that specific chapter of the rift (but luckily across the difficulties of each chapter)

the thing is, completing those progress bars is one of the missions for one of the things

and to complete the progress bars you need to buy joker

but to get the currency to get joker you have to complete the missions but you can't complete the missions because you need joker BLBLBLBLBLBLBLBLBLBL

The game used to be too fast TBH you were just spamming dodge and fishing for hits. It's more methodical now but maybe slightly too slow.

They gave everyone dash attacks but they forgot to give everyone the ability to actually run.

Yeah I watched the first 20 seconds and that looked AWFUL. 90% of their attacks were missing due to dodge spamming and just how quick things are.

It used to barely have hit detection in my experience, let alone a sense of weight or impact. It's a testament to the moveset design that it was still fun. But it is quite slow now.

My main problem with Dash attacks is that I don't know how NOT to do one easily. Most of the time I'd rather do a side attack instead because that's faster than a dash or neutral attack and I can't figure out an easy way to do it. If you use the keybind to set up a side attack button it STILL does a Dash instead when applicable. You can stop moving for a second then tilt in the direction you want to attack in, but that's still unnecessarily slow. The inputs need to be fixed, because that's a major problem imo.

I thought I was able to side-c-stick out of dash. I have the opposite problem of needing to have been moving continuously for a bit to count it as dashing, as opposed to Smash Bros where you tap, start to move, and immediately press the button.

I've found that double tapping works best for dash attacks. And yeah I've been able to c-stick tilts when I'm running too I believe so not sure about that.

its too bad they maybe junked the gameplay up, because the actual crossover element of this game is pretty fun. Its nice to have one where the characters actually interact like that.

Just tested out, and yeah C-Sticking doesn't work. That seems like such a simple fix too. You CAN instant Dash Attack by double tapping the direction and attacking, but not being to do the opposite easily is annoying.

I'll be on for a while if anyone wants to play together. Particularly if you want help earn those "play with another person" Rift Stars (I still have no idea what those do)

We need Batman and Velma to solve the mystery of what Rift objectives actually unlock

I don't know what a Rift Cauldron does other than getting one can be a mission goal

A whole cauldron of rift! That will require much grinding with a patient co-op partner, though. And specific character unlocks.

I'm pretty sure the rift stars just unlock boxes that give XP to level up your rift gems. And you need to level up your rift gems to play the higher tier difficulty rifts.

I could be wrong but I don't think there's any other benefit to getting all of the rift stars.

I don't much like the prospects of leveling up Rift gems. You can't just grind EXP and they're charging large sums of real money to do it for a reason.

so do we know yet if there's a reason Daily Rewards in rifts mode don't give you anything or is it just a bug

Ah, so that's the grift. You need to beat the bosses on multiple difficulties if you want to unlock Agent Smith for free, but you can't even attempt them if your gems aren't leveled up.

Also, clearing nodes on a higher difficulty should automatically clear them for lower ones. I don't want to go back to Easy and do it all again

I tried Jason today, and I've been having a blast with him! New main alongside Marvin.

I actually love Banana Guard. He's kinda broken; the side special and side aerial kill super early, and he can charge it up to boot. Combined with his disjoint he gets a lot of cheap kills, but well, I take those. I just don't understand how his crying works. It says it gives your partner Rage, but I don't ever really see it happen.

Yeah. Also, is there no "Retry" option? It feels like you have to exit the level, go to the lobby, and then re-select it to try again.

And I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but you don't actually have to win those minigame levels for some reason. I entered one, died immediately, and the game was like "VICTORY! Here's all the rewards for completing it!"

This was the first thing I tested after seeing the difficulty split and was just totally baffled that this isn't how it works. And who the hell is actually going to bring a friend into this mode to clear those objectives?

Doing all of the objectives on every stage on every difficulty in online co-op can't possibly be intended as "fun". It's a thing you can avoid with real-money purchases.

Also, it's worth pointing out that it's not even flat XP, it's just a gacha. You get random Gems, and if it's a Gem you already own then you get XP to level it up instead. Which is worse since it means you can't focus on leveling anything, it's just luck of the draw.

The sad thing is I would do it if it was easier to game with other people, like if there was a matchmaker. I'd at least find that kinda fun. But I don't really want to REPLAY the stuff I've already done just to get the final star. Which I'd NEED to do to get whatever the fuck a "Rift Cauldron" is.

Having to individually unlock the same perks on every single character is also garbage, while I'm at it. I get that the idea is you just have to spend a certain amount to kit everyone out and this is probably the currency that'll be the least significant for anyone who plays a long time, but it still feels awful that you might be making a "wrong" choice for someone and then have to grind even more.

Doesn't unlocking new gems at random lower your average level, too, since they start at 1? This system is really not cool.

Banana is pretty dumb fun. His down special is completely worthless but everything else makes up for it

On the main subreddit it looks like the devs acknowledged a bunch of the community's issues and are gonna be working on fixing them.

Hopefully they get on it fast and don't get hamstrung by corporate bureaucracy.
