It's not like a real smith would use a soldering iron to glue the pieces back together

the blade remembers being together so when you glue the pieces it sort of just works. The blade is stronger because of this experience and it doesnt want to be broken again.

You are correct tc. It would only be in very specific and lucky scenarios wear a reforged sword would come out without too much compromise.

But the idea is cool so it's common in fiction.

Melting the whole thing down and casting it would just make it weaker. You'd want to forge a new sword entirely.

If it's just being cast then yes, if it's being reforged by a proper smith recycling the steel them no.

That's only temporarily. Once your bone is fully healed it's no stronger than the surrounding bone.

If it was split into uniform thin layers you could probably rejoin them similar to how they folded steel.

That would be a completely contrived scenario but I can imagine a few ways. Especially if the only goal is to have a sword stronger than it was before.
