A woman killed by her XL Bully dogs at her house in east London has been named locally as Angeline Mahal. Ms Mahal, believed to be in her 50s, was attacked by her two dogs at the semi-detached home in Cornwall Close in Hornchurch just after 1pm on Monday.

Despite London Ambulance Service sending paramedics and a helicopter, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both dogs were registered as exempt from the governments ban on XL Bully dogs, which came in on 1 February.

Under the agreement for having a dog exempt, owners must have had the animal neutered, have it microchipped and keep it muzzled and on a lead in public.

One neighbour, Sejal Solanki, said she had warned her child about going near the dogs.

She said: I said Dont ever touch those dogs. Theyre dangerous.

Why do so many pit bulls turn on their own family/owners?

We are just shocked. You hear about these attacks in a paper but you never expect this to happen to your own family.

Two pit bulls? I can't even imagine having one.

Pitbull owners are all bad owners. Have to police around their idiocy. That other woman who got her baby eaten and then both of her arms chewed off by her pitbulls a year or two ago was one of these outspoken Pitbull activists.

Its a weird phenomena with these dogs. Theyre either backyard bred for fighting by lowlives, or rescues(ex fighting dogs) taken in by perpetual crusader types. Neither person trains the dogs to be civilized. Ive owned a pitbull before and currently have two dogo argentinos. Ive never had an incident with any dog Ive ever had going back to my childhood. We need some legislation on pitbulls, for their owners sake and everyone else.

My PM at my new job got one. His wife of course brought it home, it has some strange disease that makes it drool and is too violent to be with their other dogs. Its tearing up their furniture and he is the only one who can physically handle the dog.

They have two very young kids as well. I hear the thing barking and tearing shit up all the time because he keeps it in his room most of the day

They have banned pitbulls in the UK.

This was excempt. You have to buy a licence for it and follow a bunch of rules.

I believe they dont allow exemptions anymore, so thats less people trying to skirt around the ban

People who raise potentially dangerous pets become too confident that they have everything under control.

I get that any pet can be dangerous, but few will actually kill you. I guess England will crack down even harder on their pit ban after this.

German Shepherds and Chow Chows dont get nearly this amount of media coverage, despite being statistically more aggressive than pit bulls.

The dogs cannot be bred, sold, or gifted.

Existing ones must pass an assessment, be registered, neutered, adequately fenced in, and wear a muzzle in public.

Unfortunately, none of that stops them killing their owners.

If you walk into the woods, mosquitoes are pretty aggressive and biting you. I wonder why there arent new stories about people who get bit by mosquitoes to the same extent as people who are mauledto death by pit bulls. It must be a conspiracy.

• Pit Bulls: 284 deaths
• Rottweiler: 45 deaths
• German Shepherd: 20 deaths
• Mixed breeds: 17 deaths
• American Bulldog: 15 deaths
• Mastiff: 14 deaths
• Siberian Husky: 13 deaths
• Labrador Retriever: 9 deaths
• Boxer: 7 deaths

if the rules don't involve training and some kind of behavioral certification they're useless.

i guess i'm fortunate to never have problems with my dog. in fact the vets seemed to love her (easy patient) willing to endure shots, nail clippings. for 13 years. in return for some chicken jerky as a reward.

was some sort of american staffordshire terrier/hound mix.
