My baseless head canon is the show was created with Nick Offerman in mind for the lead, not realizing how progressive and not-Ron Swanson he is in real life.

Haven't watched it but based on what I've heard, it ironically does a decent job of depicting conservative teachers.
Demand respect but don't give it, often don't even show up for class, never face any consequences for their actions.

This was all Adam Carollas idea. Mr. Birchum is based off of his character from Crank Yankers. He apparently tried pitching this show to Fox back in 2011.

I watched the first episode through a reaction vid. yeah, it's pretty bad.

HBO Max is a service that most people already had. It's the general streaming service for Warner Bros. content. They didn't need to subscribe just to watch Velma if they were using it for other things.

Daily Wire+ is a service exclusively for "conservative entertainment", so its audience is far more specialized.

This review seems interested in making the claim "conservative comedy CAN be funny, but Mr Birchum isn't", and putting aside the question of whether King of the Hill is actually a conservative show, I think he's missing that Mr Birchum isn't really intended to be a comedy. It's a pander show. It's targeting a specific demographic of brainwormed-out people and telling them "yes, your insane beliefs are valid and you are seen."

It's not funny because it has no need to be funny in the usual sense that an adult animated cartoon is. It's funny to its audience in the sense it designates an outgroup that is already understood going in as being worthy of derision laughter, and hands you an in group character to laugh at those people with you.

A lot of people say "conservative comedy is about punching down", but that's not the most accurate way to put it. Family Guy isn't necessarily making "conservative comedy" when it makes a joke about Hellen Keller's disabilities. Conservative is not a synonym of edgy or something. But what conservative comedy is about, just like conservatism, is shaping and enforcing in groups, out groups, and hierarchies. Conservative comedy doesn't attack, for example, trans people "because" they are a marginalized group, instead conservative comedy is what marginalizes groups.

The best part was how it started (IIRC) was because of the crappy bible movies that kept having animal characters and he commented about how that was the only redeeming aspect.

I mean, it's more than likely he just takes voice work when offered. There's no shortage of lame adult animated sitcoms being produced constantly. He goes in the booth, records his part, takes his check, and goes home with no indication during the process what the show's political bent is.

But I haven't watched the show so maybe every line they give him makes it obvious that it's in the chud-o-sphere. If so, yeah...

I watched the video. This is actually a quality Saberspark video because he gives actual examples from King of the Hill tackling the same subject matter but better, funnier, more nuanced, and actually challenging their characters as oppose to being an echo chamber like this show. Difference between Hank Hill and Mr. Birchum is that Hank has empathy and is willing to compromise with his conservative/traditional outlook to get the best result for everyone around him, including people that he disagrees with. Mr. Birchum reminds me of that dark times when Family Guy was more concern with preaching than telling a funny joke.

5-8 years ago he was definitely a both-sideser.

Since then he has been reflecting on many things, but never stated outright that he is anti-R.

uhhh he directly compares it to a similar show and breaks down why the other show is better

thats not being surface level

also the problem is the show its self there is just nothing to it

as i said, im 11 minutes in

so far the only comparisons to other shows he's done were "x did this better"

i haven't stopped watching. he's also just not a very pleasant to listen to orator tho
