To me, collars on cats are weird. I don't think any of the cats I've had had collars. All my childhood cats I think I remember not wearing collars. My current cat is the first pet I've had as an adult. And he doesn't wear one. But he also never goes outside

When I think of naked cat, I think of a hairless cat.

They're mostly for if the cat happens to get outside and get lost so people have a way of returning them to the owner (without having to do the song and dance of going to a vet to check for a microchip).

Well also I've heard some people fear a cat with a collar might get stuck somewhere. If the collar catches on something. That can be a risk for an outdoor cat

Breakaway collars do exist, but would kinda defeat the purpose.

My cats were indoor/outdoor cats and usually wore collars and never got stuck and we lived in the woods with plenty of trees.

None of my cats ever had collars. Most of them were chipped tho, and they've also been predominantly indoor -- only allowed out for a bit of a romp in the backyard then back inside.
