Next week we have EU wide elections for the european parlament, yet the situation seems to get more tense and frustrating every day.

Since the invasion of Russia into Ukraine, we already have beyond big problems with Russia and their local shills, not to speak about the catastrophe in Ukraine itself (Lwiw is only 600km away from where I live).

But lately, violence (political and not) is oo the rise without any sign to stop at all.

Knife stabbings in general and physical attacks on politicans in general are on the rise and by now a common occurence in germany, with the attack in Mannheim (with a dead cop as the result) being the peak for now.

In northern Germany, some students make a party song out of "Germany the germans, foreigners out!", not far away, last month thousand of people demonstrated in favor of germany becoming a Kalifat / islamic state.

This summer we have pride month with all the pride events going on, the european soccer championship, and the olympic games in France. In France they already arrested someone suspected of planning a terror attack on the olympic games.

Today I open the news, and can read how another guy got stabbed in a park here yesterday, and is fighting for his life, and in Munich, there was a shooting, 1 dead. But it was probably some personal thing both times, so I'm supposed to not worry at all.

It feels like everyone (myself included) is already expecting something to happen this summer, only unsure when and where it will be.

Prices and inflation go up, the education sector has no ressources, the health sector has no ressources (yeah, my check up got scheduled for october!), everyone has less and less, and violence on words and actions is one the rise every year.

It feels so frustrating, and the only thing politicans do are spewing lies, empty promises, corruption, hate, and fucking putin bootlickers.

"Thoughts and prayers" and "no way to prevent this" made in europe.

It's coming to Canada and resurgence in Germany and Italy, Mexico is full of alt righters pissed off about the recent election too. The has gone stupid and it feels like it's all originating from those countries enemies

Yeah, even Canada has been infected by the chud virus, now. Let's hope it isn't severe enough to affect their election results.

This is the kind of thing that always gets me when people make the lefty comparison to European countries. This shit was always there, fomenting.

I'm sure I'm leaving a lot out. Rather oddly given their history, TERF Island is pretty much the only politically sane country left in Europe, though I'm sure the Brits would disagree.

I mean it was literally fascist until the 70s. For some reason everyone forgets it was still a fascist dictatorship like Spain post WWII and the West just let it join NATO anyway because it wasn't that bad... Until it was and cracked down on it's colonies so bad they all ended up going to the Soviets for help achieving independence. Portugal has one of the absolute most white washed modern histories in Europe.

To be fair, there are some differences within the right wing parties in europe.

They all hate the EU, but some of them actually hate Russia even more.

Sadly not all of them, that would make supporting Ukraine much more efficient.

Some countries have some special inner political issues too, resulting in weird standoffs.

The world suddenly loves Nazism and wants the rebirth of it. Apparently.

Sadly...we are learning the hard truth...that democracy is not just" a natrual evolution for the world" and that there's a reason monarchy was the default place for most of humanity for well...most of it.

We are seeing the painful truth that it really seems that democracy only works when times are good...when most have to make tough choices they rather crush those weaker to them then have to settle...I'm afraid that if there is no solutions soon most of the world will give up on democracy and rather just crush minority groups then settle with them.

I'll admit that other than knowing they're like the only "crazed-white men throwing nets on African slaves for enslavement" trope I don't know anything of Portugal's history. They didn't come up in school and as an adult it never occurred me to look into it.

Kind of in the same boat. Barely learned about Spain and Franco during the same period from schooling. Gleaned even less about Portugal.

good to know the us isn't the only nation sinking deeper and deeper into rampant nationalism and fascism.
