I went on a family trip to Rwanda for about three weeks, some years back, and after that, spent a week in visiting a few European countries.

I really liked it.

I've never taken a vacation where I planned things ahead of time beyond like one or two steps (ie event and a hotel) <_<

Probably the best was going from El Paso to VA for work

Flew my mom into Austin, picked her up.
spent a few days there, saw A New Hope with live orchestration on a whim.
Drove into Louisiana, stayed a night.
Drove into NOLA, saw Lions @ Saints game
Drove north a bit, met a family friend
On a whim went to the first Raising Cane's at LSU
Then drove into MS, spent the night
Then drove into Mobile, AL and went to the USS Alabama memorial.
Then eventually drove on home before heading on to my next work destination.

Only planned part of any of that was flying my mom in.

I've only ever been on 2. We started doing a family vacation 2 years ago. This year will be the 3rd if we can afford to go.

Both so far have been to the beach. Once to Virginia beach, next was to Oak Island North Carolina I think.

First was way better. Room right on the beach, great view, right across the street from a big arcade and fairground. Not far from an aquarium and the zoo was nice too.

Oak Island was ok, but my aunt and uncle took over and we didn't even do anything. Just sat on the beach for a couple of days. Which was great and all, but after the previous year being so entertaining that one was very uneventful.

Honeymoon.

Where we went is kinda irrelevant tbh.

I have a few, all for different reasons.

Most recent one was an all-inclusive, 21 and over, resort in Mexico with my wife. No worrying about ever having to take out my wallet. No kids being loud by the pool. Just a relaxing 5 days in the sun.

But there was also the weeklong ballpark trip I took with my buddy about 20 years ago. Went from NY to Philly to Pittsburgh to Cleveland to Detroit to Toronto to Cooperstown to Boston. Saw 7 games in 8 days.

The best vacation has to be my two week trip to Norway back in 2019. The whole country is beautiful, it was awesome seeing various Viking stuff, and it was really neat to visit the small fishing village that my great grandfather left in 1926 to go to America.

I still have dreams where I am in Norway, if I had the money I would try moving to Bergen
