I haven't seen any yet, but they tend to roll these measures out to only a small group of people to delay the development of countermeasures.

I dont understand why they try to fight people who know how to use adblockers, it must cost a lot in money and resources and is a losing battle

They should stick to giving ads to normie users

I expect most of it is just showing off to shareholders, making a pretense of doing something about all of this hypothetical money that's being left on the table if they don't fight back (never mind that if they do succeed, users that are currently blocking will almost never click ads and they'll therefore be tanking their click-through rate) so they can blame that "loss" on somebody else instead of eroding shareholder faith in them.

They got a lot more aggressive with their ads around the time they started fighting back against adblocking, which also corresponded with pushing Premium a lot more aggressively. I expect it's mostly just them trying to push Premium by offering it as a solution to a problem they created.

It's buried, and apparently not many people are getting it since it's really hard to find info about it but it seems like Youtube has started putting ads directly into videos which is why they're not getting blocked and why there is such a long delay. And they are blasting me with stuff about youtube premium which is now seeming like a good idea because 2+ minutes of ads every few minutes is getting rough to handle.

Literally just dropped an unskippable 5 minute ad on me wtf.

I expect some sort of countermeasure will be developed within a day or two. Short of actually baking the ad directly into the video so it's completely indistinguishable from the content you're looking for, there's going to be *some* extra reference that a blocker can target and intercept, and while that's an option, it's not an option that lets them run multiple different ads on the same video or target ads to the user, and both of those are a much greater loss of potential revenue than adblocking.

It's not, it's ignorant and you know it is because all you do is make nonsense posts. They're a violation of copyrights but hard to enforce since many of the servers are kept out of countries where Blizzard can do anything about it. You surely must know this, and you must also surely know I'm more shocked that google is hosting advertisements for blatant violations of copyright law and not whether or not they "should" be illegal or not

No they're not unless the people are also running pirated copies of the games. Servers themselves are not illegal.

They keep giving me French ads.
I don't understand how the company that knows literally everything about me doesn't know I don't speak French?

I don't want to report the ad to Google, I want to report to the advertiser so they know how Google is robbing them of their money and showing their ad to people that don't even speak the language.
This is basic stuff and Google can't figure it out? Why are advertisers giving YouTube any money at all?

Don't reward their shitty practices. Buying premium only tells them to keep doing this, and eventually Premium gets nerfed to only block some ads, with Premium Plus being the new (and more expensive) option being the no ad choice.

Out of curiosity, what browser and adblocker are you using?

I honestly doubt they would ever do that because people would just fast forward past the ad. That is usually what I do with sponsorship spots.

Unless they update their player to allow them to disable video controls between certain timestamps, which is not outside the realm of possibility. But yeah, I doubt they'd do that because customizing ads and showing a greater variety is so much more valuable than just making sure that each viewer sees an ad no matter what.

Vimeo and Dailymotion are the only ones I know of off-hand, but calling those "actual competitors" is a bit of a stretch. Youtube's stranglehold on the video hosting market isn't likely to be broken any time soon, unless there's a mass exodus of creators (and even then, the existing content that will remain will keep them going for a long time).

It likely took Youtube several months to come up with the bypass, and uBlock taking a few days to fix it is mostly just because Youtube only rolled out the change to a small subset of users. In the long run, this is not a fight Youtube can win. The adblocking community is just too strong and dedicated to blocking ads for any one company to be able to defeat them without investing far, far more resources than it's worth (particularly where those trying to block ads are less likely to click them or buy the products even if they are forced to see them). Short of successfully lobbying to make adblocking illegal (which is unlikely to see much success given that the FBI recommends that everybody use an adblocker for security reasons), any gains they see are going to be short-lived.
