To be fair, my views are actually very complex regarding him. I have interacted with him on the sex board for years and we have alternated between getting along and have pretty horrible arguments.

He did make a video from a bar congratulating me by name when I got married. I thought that was classy, especially in light of the pretty bad argument we had just had. I used to defend CE all the time against his complaints.

I think you try to see the good in everyone and if they are friendly with you that makes it easier to forgive and forget.

It has caused problems for me occasionally in my personal life. But I think it has helped me more than hurt me in the long run.

Now that I am in a good place in my life (new marriage, new house, etc), I am actually trying to stop that and cut out people. I don't need to try to maintain dozens of friendships with people who don't reach out to me if I don't reach out to them. Just focus on my family and a few healthy friendships. It is very hard for me. After my divorce, I think having a lot of people like me gave me a self esteem boost. Seems pathetic now.

Sorry, blogfaqs. But I hope this can help people understand.

When you're in a highly marginalized group that's always under attack, you need very clearly defined views of whether someone is an ally or not an ally. If someone isn't actively helping and says things that do the opposite, they have to end up in the "enemy" camp.

I've seen it mentioned a few times about how "he may have bad opinions, but he hasn't had a bad opinion here so stop harassing him."

Like, that isn't how this works. If you have harmful, shitty opinions, you should be held to account and made to answer for those harmful, shitty opinions. You don't get a pass in this moment just because you got your ass beat and aren't being harmful in this particular moment.
