Did Luneth actually get nominated in or was that a raytan era addition? If he was nominated, that's pretty weird. I know he's the main character but I figured most of the other cast would be more interesting to this board.

What notable omissions were you thinking of? I'm not sure there were any by the time you took over unless you really wanted to add in all the missing playable characters from II and VI. (Or were you trying to add the XV cast for free?)

I'm glad nominations exist and all, but I think perhaps there should be some sort of host additions process. Look at 16 for example; only 3 characters. But if the main cast was added in place of some of this year's nominations, would it have been more interesting? I think it's possible because there have been so many characters nominated only to be immediately booted. A lot of these characters are just things most people aren't going to save ever, and so if the people interested enough to get them in also don't save them, then it's a waste.

At least with bigger name characters I feel like there's a chance they could pick up saves at the end of rounds when people's priorities become safe.

I think XVI outside of these three would've been boot fodder anyway. These three are the popular ones and they're still kind of struggling.

I think at the time I was interested in adding in characters from unrepresented games, so I was going to add Cosmos from Dissidia, Ceodore from After Years, stuff like that.

Characters who likely would have been hard boots but at least they got a shot.

I expected Cid to do a bit better than he is, but I guess enough people haven't played XVI yet. He'll survive boots, at least.

Honestly I expected Clive to be the less popular one which is why I give him my save first.

But either way it's fine because I've been able to hold out for FFXII characters so far. If it ever came down to it they'd get cut loose first.

I always thought maybe 5 more hard boots and 5 more soft boots would open up nominations a bit better. 25 new characters doesnt feel like a lot.

35 boots is a lot

25 new characters feels like too much, honestly.

It should just be all hard boots so we don't nominate the same people back every time

Look at the next 10 characters who didn't make it and then tell me we should increase the turnover each year by 10

If I can't trust the host to allow in a legitimate, legal, FF3DS-assigned English name to a character, I couldn't trust a 'host additions' process!!

if I do tinker with the nomination process, the most likely change is to drop from 5 to 4 singles, but I'm not really sure that would change things much

...I would also consider the addition of exactly one spot in the field for the sole purpose of making stats numbers not all be boring round numbers

One contest I swear I would actually main Balthier over Tidus if anyone would see fit to join me. That's XII's major issue though. A lot of different characters have a lot of different fans, but no one has any confidence in a singular character to actually do well so they forever pick up only tertiary, or secondary support at absolute best. This is why a rando sidequest character like Ktjn can enter the field and dunk all over major playable cast members in their own blasted game. XII needs someone to champion it, but most of the diehard XII fans have moved on with their lives, and those that remain prefer to push other characters (or prefer to push other multi-year projects that drag on endlessly) precisely BECAUSE they know that their XII favorite is going to be the first sacrificial lamb on the chopping block when the smiffic Powers That Be start demanding blood.

What a sad state of affairs XII is in. Honestly if Balthier is the next to go I'm personally gonna plan to let him sit out next contest with his lady love. He clearly isn't destined for greatness any time soon, barring some miracle. But maybe Joshua won't get Jill-ted for C-XXVII!

I think I mentioned this in the discord, but the honest solution? I think it might be better to cut the single noms by one to limit trading and get more general support characters

I think its fine to have a balance of a character like Edgar (no real traders) and a character like Ritz (has a trader who will probably get her to top half if they show up every round) , maybe slightly less power to traders though just because its so easy

The cutoff this year was around 10 nominations, that's more than a single trader can manage!

the people who are complaining we didn't get more FFXVI characters (or more "serious" characters in general) in are also the people who won't save them and watch them get hard booted

This I'm afraid I have negative interest in. I'd rather bring back Ba'Gamnan than see Vayne's handsome mug in this contest again, and of course Reks is better than his baby brother despite his one unfortunate appearance.

The solution is to change the nomination process to make trading less effective

I'll have to think about how to do that. I almost think the simple solution is to make nominations in this format

+4 Character
+2 Character
+1 Character

Still same amount of points to give but trading has less value since you can't even give a character double strength by going all in on it.

Also a single full clip traded Character doesn't get in over a character who has two +4s

I don't think getting rid of nomination trading is the move, but I might be down with limiting the power of trading in the nomination process depending on what that entails. It might lead to jokers being unable to drag in FFX blitzball jobbers and FFX-2 Ronsos just to watch them get booted for the lulz at the very least. If that means I get a little less Braskas and Ba'Gamnans to support, then it's still a fair trade off. Leave the inflow for characters people actually give a damn about.
