Aldi has been using these e-paper/e-ink price tags for a while now. They don't do "surge pricing" or whatever bullshit, but it's more that it's probably cheaper to update pricing in the long run than printing new prices on paper and having to manually switch it out (at least when it comes to labor).

It increases the chance that they will line up, but it doesn't guarantee it. We use electronic price tags at the store where I work, and they occasionally fail in such a way where they just stop updating.

Yeah, if anything, it means the price on the produce is actually right. My store the grocery people are horrendous about actually changing the price label when they update the system price.

I'm more concerned about how much of a pain in the ass this will make changing shelf layouts. But that's because I've worked there and seen so many of the home office supplied layouts not bear any connection to reality.

When I worked at Walmart the corporate office in Arkansas set prices for all stores, individual stores could not set their own prices, I dont know if all thats changed

This. The people saying "Now they can change the price whenever they want!" aren't aware grocery stores already do this on a daily basis - now it just doesn't require a File Maintenance clerk to manually resticker the price tags.

When I worked at Stop and Shop in that position, one of the things I would have to do is routinely check for any price changes that came down from corporate in the morning and afternoon, appy them manually through the stores inventory system, then print the labels out and replace the price tag in the shelf.

All digital pricing does is remove the need to print and stick new labels on the shelves.

If the price isn't the same as the price sticker you can contest it and they are supposed to honor the sticker. I already was aware of this but got told it again by an assistant producer manager at a food lion.

Like I said in the other topic on this, there's already nothing to stop a store from changing prices in the POS system and there's already no guarantee that the shelf price matches the price in the system. This changes nothing.

I don't need a headline to be utterly fucking disgusted in American capitalism. Everyone should be, all the time, until it is fixed. If you disagree with that, then I don't know what to say.

What other reason, or ultimate goal do you think this has other than surge pricing, or price fluctuations that act similarly? They just really, really want to make sure that the prices they change maybe once a week at most don't take more than a few minutes to update the normal way?

And I definitely see why they would try surge pricing. Money. That's why. And that lawsuit is literally nothing. It's worth it to pay that literal pocket change for them just to be legally allowed to say that they weren't at fault. 45 million is nothing to them.
