Yall are clearly wayyyy too young to have grown up in times I did if this offends. If you acted up in school you'd get whooped right then, then get it twice as bad once you got home. And don't let the neighborhood parents catch you doing something you weren't supposed to. You'd get it from them and then from your mama and daddy once you got home.

Keep in mind this was how everybody was raised and it's much preferable to the wild west approach parents take these days.

Someone close to you does something wrong, something they shouldn't have done, so you decided to hit them as punishment. Later on, you apologize for it and tell them that you still love them despite what you did to them. Is that someone your child...or your spouse/SO? What is the difference? How is it not abuse?

today it was a three year old who pulled down his swim trunks at the splash pad. Literally no one gives a fuck

Other times its you talked back to me. Its never something actually serious like hurting another kid or whatever

it's just parents with anger issues who feel they can take it out on their defenseless kids

I grew up in the time of spanking, and received my fair share. It can work possibly, but most parents take it too far and leads to more kids hiding thing to avoid the parents anger.

at the same time, I do think kids act out a lot more than I did growing up. Where if I did what they were I be getting my butt whooped.

my parents would put a bar of soap in my mouth whenever I'd act up (I'm very prone to talking back and getting mouthy w/ ppl irl) so idk.

never in public, but tbh I don't think hitting kids is the way to do it. imo, it stunts the child's growth.

one of my coworkers has talked to me about his childhood, and his parents would basically beat him. and he's fairly well adjusted, given the circumstances, but even he can realize that there's parts of his personality that are just kinda...underdeveloped. like, he has zero success with dating and stuff.

it sucks, and I've tried in the past a bunch of times to invite him to the bar or hang out at the local fair (its a yearly fair, tons of food and local bands and stuff, super fun) and stuff, and he'll always turn it down saying he doesn't want to cause any trouble, when he's the least troublesome person I know. it's really a shame imo, cus he's a very nice person. like, the best way to put it is that he has this shell, like the saying 'come out of your shell' and it just stops him dead in his tracks.

after that ???? i wouldn't know. spanking a child seems wrong. there's other ways to get the point across that a behavior or action is unacceptable in the parents views.

restriction. grounding. taking away entertaining things for X amount of time works better (once gotten the sega genesis restriction for 2 days when i was bad). though i cant remember what i did to deserve it.

It's interesting that a kid acting up in public despite knowing they'll get hit is proof that hitting is not some magical cure. You still have to do actual parenting or address your kid's behavioral issues in a medical/professional way if they have them. Not sure what room that leaves for hitting them.

So this is more extreme. But how would you handle some of these kids I got here at juvie where they are on for assaulting and even Injuring their (one strangled her mother to the point of hospitalization) and a lot of them have done it multiple times. I feel like jail is just gonna make them resent the parent even more.

I don't. I leave them alone unless they give me a reason not to.

Reading these kids files though.... yeah someone failed to discipline them. Like one in particular. Anytime he was let out of his room there was a 50% chance he was assaulting a staff member. Read one case note where it says he THREW a table at staff. He was in for assaulting his mother and 6 year old sister and he was 17.

I did prefer the prison though where I knew 99% of them where indeed guilty.

But I work 3rd shift so I rarely even deal with the kids. Just make sure they are alive and some paperwork.

Worst I've done here is a note was found where one kid was trying to bribe and coerce another into taking the full blame for what they where arrested over (murder) so I emailed that to the court staff. That's a crime and asking a kid with a fairly clean record to take the fall when you have a rap sheet a mile long is wrong. So while one kid got fucked over it helped the other.

Somehow, I don't think publicly beating kids is going to make them any less violent in the end.

You think kids who were beaten remember that when they're old enough to decide whatever or not to take care of their parents or place them in a elderly home?

That'd be terrible of course, but I wonder if the subject ever crossed their mind.

I was just asking if there some point where people against hitting a child would think it's ok like in self defense.

Also never almost got shanked because I turned my back. I was trying to be nice and let him put a shirt on finally I said your taking too long and cuffed him. He never got ahold of the shank so no almost

Anyways enough on that not trying to deal only wanted if my kid was punching me in the face repeatedly what yall think I should do cause somehow I doubt a time out or restrictions would be effective

Naturally I'd try to get to the bottom of why they got violent and see if that can be corrected but some actions require consequences.

There's a very clear distinction between using force to prevent immediate injury to yourself, and using force to punish or coerce.

He's been an obvious troll for a good while now, but the folks at gamefaqs feel he needs to be given several chances to act right for whatever reason.

Damn, Billy goes on full defense for hitting children and doesnt even get a warn and meanwhile people getting warned for harmless hawk tuah topics.

I don't see many instances of parents hitting their kids thankfully but I do see a lot of yanking them by the arm and dragging them when they're doing something that they're not supposed to. And that bothers me.

That happened to me yesterday when I was walking towards my job and on the other side I saw a mother walking with her child. The child was just making a finger gun gesture and then started shooting me when he saw me when we were about to cross paths. Of course I had to play along and act like I was getting shot. This made the kid giggle and when the mother caught on what was going on she just yanks the kid by the arm and apologized to me and started having an aggressive tone with the kid. I told her that y'all were good and that the kid wasn't bothering but I guess she didn't really hear me or was ignoring me because she just kept yelling at the kid as we were walking away from each other. Maybe next time I shouldn't entertain a kids imagination lol
