On a related note, there's a series called Kikaider, about a robot built with a morality/conscience system called the Gemini Circuit. The name was actually a pun based on Jiminy Cricket; the series makes a lot of parallels to Pinocchio.

Gem as in precious gems.

In as in the opposite of out.

Eye as in the things you see with.

So Gem-in-eye.

Whoever says "Gem-in-ee" is completely wrong.

The Classical Latin pronunciation is /e.mi.ni/
The Italianate Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation is /de.mi.ni/

In Modern English, both /dmna/ and /dmni/ are accepted pronunciations.

Personally, I go with the first English pronunciation, because it's the way I heard it being used.

I believe its a thing in the American South. Lots of the NASA engineers that say it that way in historical footage are Southern.
