Justice Samuel Alito was not present on Friday morning as the Supreme Court handed down opinions in the courtroom, the second day in a row he has been absent.

Alitos absence, for which the Supreme Court has not provided an explanation, is unusual because its the end of the term and the justices have issued nine opinions over the last two days.

One of the opinions on Friday included upholding a federal law that bars guns for domestic abusers, rejecting an argument pressed by gun rights groups that the prohibition violated the Second Amendment.

I don't care if Trump is a week away from being sworn in when Alito croaks (RIP), Dems need to nominate someone and ram them through.

And they need to nominate an actual Democrat to the position, not some Federalist Society or Heritage Foundation stooge chosen as their latest and most humiliating "compromise" with the Republicans (that they'd reject out of hand anyway) like Merrick Garland would have been if Turtle Mitch wasn't a stonewalling prick (and how he's currently doing as head of the DOJ).

Democrat scotus nominees almost always come from the ABA and even if they aren't recommended by the ABA they at least get a sign off on qualifications. They never ever ever ever get input from The Federalist Society or Heritage foundation.

They wouldn't have the votes. Manchin will 100% vote with Republicans. From there only 1 more dem needs to break rank. Probably Sinema. She can be easily bought.
