Having never played the original, Cait sacrifice hit me right in the feels. Then its immediately undercut about a minute later finding out hes one of many.

Im assuming Aerith gets killed soon. 80 hours in so far.

It's the same in the original. Nearly beat for beat.

I looked it up immediately in the original and was clued off about what was about to happen by the line about dont forget me even if another one shows up.

Yeah and in Rebirth you see another Cait Sith body in the Shinra building.

I like that they did a better job showing us info about Cait Sith.

Oh God Aerith dying is about to hit hard AF. I totally get why people that played the original leaned towards her for the date over Tifa.

Mostly but I think the original does do a better job of showing that while Cait Sith is ultimately a robot controlled by someone else, it is also an AI with its own life. It says, "There are a lot of stuffed toys, but there's only one me. Don't forget me if another Cait Sith comes along!"

I don't think Rebirth has anything like that.

The closest I'd imagine is Cait Sith saying if he truly died people would be crying in the streets. But that his body is one of many.

It definitely doesn't, at least not that I saw, because this is my first time ever hearing that. The sacrifice meant nothing to me because I was like, it's just someone speaking thru a robot, why should I care?

If Rebirth did anything better than the OG, it was how they handled Cait Sith.

I think Rebirth tries to establish that Cait is someone controlled by a Shinra employee and nothing else. In the original, it's more ambiguous because there's just no way that employee can maintain his life and job while controlling Cait 24/7, so it only makes sense that there's an actual AI that runs the toys and he just steps in at key moments.

Rebirth adds scenes where Cait is silent and motionless for stretches at a time, presumably to indicate that the employee is AFK.

In the original, the way I interpreted it was that each Cat Sith has its own conscious. So that one specifically sacrificed itself.

This final fight is some absolute BULLSHIT.

Finally fucking best Sephiroth. That was the most absolutely annoying final battle Ive ever taken part in.

Her death didn't hit like I was expecting to. Which was disappointing to me since I missed out on it in the original (only played it right before I started Remake back in February and already knew she was going to die, so I missed out on the emotional impact of it.), so I was expecting it to hit me hard. Especially since I really liked her in the remakes. Instead I was just left confused at the time.

Yeah, they basically undercut any and all emotions you'd have by making it trippy alternate universe bullshit.

I really loved the story they had going in Remake, but it was far too intrusive in Rebirth's ending. Of all moments, Aerith's death is one they absolutely needed to let breathe for a bit.

Well that was a long ending. Hopefully we get the finale within two years. Game is amazing, but too fucking long. Hopefully chapter select is unlocked and I can clean up a few trophies like all quests completed, chadley materia obtained and Gilgamesh.

Not playing this game again in full until the third is announced, I will platinum this entire trilogy. Damn them for making a second run necessary for the platinum, hard mode is absolute balls.

Exactly, it completely undercut what should be an emotional moment with confusion and trying to set up for the next game. It was so bad I'm wondering if it was presented that way on purpose so that if it doesn't end up sticking people won't consider it a bait and switch or whatever

I always got the impression it was done like that specifically to showcase the mental toll it was taking on Cloud. Dudes mind has been broken for some time and now it's even worse.

These were my thoughts too. I was waiting for the Aerith death scene and I felt like they were not blatant enough with it. They really should have went for it, but the confusion of the multiverse situation really took the wind out of it for me.

Like, why do they have to keep making endings to games that just confuse the fuck out of people? Can't we just have a straightforward ending for once?

There is chapter select available, pro tip if you want to hit the level cap super quick. Go to chapter 12 on hard and do that side quest about the cats, with an exp boost materia the enemies in it give so exp that you can level 70 before you finish the quest once

Yeah, that's been my understanding ever since I listened to a video of Maximillain Dood and Easy Allies discussing the ending. Still preferred how the original handled it though.

The issue is that it confuses the audience just as much as Cloud. We'd already gotten plenty on how Cloud is having a mental breakdown, this was not the moment to stress the point.

I think people are going to be even more confused when Cloud completely breaks at the Northern Crater, which will likely result in him turning on the party.

Day after and Im still confused about Zach. Is he alive or not? Or will Aerith be what Zack appeared to be in this game as a guiding hand type of character in defining moments

Apparently it's something along the lines of one or more versions of Zack being alive in an alternate universe, and what you saw throughout the game was switching back and forth between multiple universes

So the end when Cloud and Zack teamed up, it was them teaming up from two different universes to beat Sephiroth

Again, idk why they have to make things so fucking ambiguous and confusing with their endings and storytelling

I still don't think there's going to be a bait and switch of the overall plot at this point. Aerith is likely going to appear to Cloud as hallucinations, and will probably join when the timelines converge again at the end, but she is still very much dead in this world.

Maybe, but if she's still heavily present in the narrative, even as an hallucination it still dilutes her death, which is my main problem with it. Typical multiverse issue.
