Because the billionaire-owned corporate media won't shut the hell up about it, while conspicuously remaining silent about how old Trump is, and how his brain turned to mush decades ago. The billionaires want Trump (or any other Republican available; Trump is just the one who has the base's backing) back in charge to lower their taxes down to nothing, get rid of all those pesky regulations that are designed to keep people alive rather than increase profits, and effectively enslave everyone that isn't themselves.

What signs of dementia?

In the debate he was coherent but had trouble pulling out his thoughts quickly. That is not dementia.

Dementia is rambling about the snake and the snake oh yea the snake and sharks.

Not to mention since the debate he has been fine. Did you miss the address on the Scotus ruling?

Because people, largely, are idiots.

That Bidens gaffes (which in context still make logical sense and could easily be attributed to his lifelong speech impediment) are seen as dementia when the unhinged ramblings of Trump (along with his frequently displayed mood changes) arent is pretty good evidence of that.

I'm not personally saying anything about dementia. Just that that's a hell of a loss of energy in 11 years, and in the hopeful event of biden winning it raises some pretty anxious questions about what the next 4 years look like.

Disclaimer 2: yeah i know, still better than the next 4 years of trump etc.

People get on me for talking about ableism/ageism but fuck man. As someone who stuttered when younger and has some of those issues now, it's been so insane seeing people essentially nod their head to the idea that speaking badly is an indication of senility and dementia.

Biden should probably step down because he's lost the faith of the party and campaigning is a game for energetic people. But fuck, dementia?

While the following answer also applies to Trump because he's also decrepit, his advanced age means a higher chance of dying while in office than any other president we've had as medicine and hospitals only go so far especially concerning a demanding position like being the president, which means the VP now becomes president after he dies. So while you're voting for the president, because of his advanced age, you are also voting for the VP who while was picked as the VP by the president for a reason, is not the president and has different views and beliefs on how to handle things. Part of the reason why I find it really weird why Trump hasn't announced who his VP is yet.

Part of the political ground swell of 2016 was Millennials getting tired of old, out of touch career politicians. Especially since it was after the Occupy movement.

Which is why Hillary was such a shitty choice for a candidate.

I mean I get it. It's just at the time that's when the whole Boomer vs Millennial thing was at the peak. People would tell stories about how their 65 year old Dad would say that you could just get a job by asking to see the manager and shaking his hand.

People who have been locked into their rent or mortgage for 40 years don't understand how much higher it is, how federal minimum wage is piddly fuck compared to the 1970s.

Hillary, Biden, Bernie, and Trump all are or would have been the oldest presidents in history. I get people bringing up they're all old but I don't get people complaining about it like it's some thing that was out of our control, because young people ran too. No one voted for them. These people were all by far the most popular picks. If you didn't vote for like Cruz, Rubio, etc on the Republican side or Buttigieg, Harris, etc on the Democratic side then you are part of the reason the people here are old.

Dementia is a wide spectrum and the early stages of it are extremely common in someone 80+. Almost universally. It is not a specific disease but is a term for a group of symptoms such as age related loss of memory, language, not being as sharp as your youth to the degree that theres is a visual difference in performance.

Diagnosing a specific kind of disease based dementia like Alzheimers and many others requires professional tests and autopsy.

It's had sway for years. It was the chief predicted criticism 4 years ago and it's simply coming to pass. Why are people acting surprised about this? The people that voted for him in the primaries in 2020 and 2024 seriously didn't anticipate this? They should stop pretending to be the only ones who understand politics then.

And the conspiracism around this has GOT to STOP. It's making us look insane and out of touch. Jon Stewart, Lloyd Doggett, Michael Moore, Adam Smith, Stephen King, Ral Grijalva, Jerry Nadler, etc and 1/3rd of Democrats as whole are not advocating for him to step down because they want Trump to win or are being paid by Russia or manipulated by billionaires. They legitimately believe that Biden has either declined to the point of unfitness or believe that key voters think that and think it's possible to select a stronger candidate.

If we can't grapple with that, we're not grappling with reality. We can't partake in soothing delusions.
